Manuals the way to go if you dont want other family members to drive it. Autos are nice too though.

I have the auto. Wish I went with the manual. This auto is one of the worst (newer autos) I've driven. My 2001 auto was much much better.

my 2010 is a automagic, first automatic automobile i have ever owned.. and let me just say its so nice when in traffic.

i drove a manual tacoma 05+ for the first time recently, i'm not sure i would ever be able to get used to the position of reverse. took me like 3 minutes to find it!

    6 speed manual.
More control over the vehicle and fun to drive even in heavy traffic. I don't eat, drink, read, yak on the cell phone or any other distractions while driving so it's no big deal.

6 speed here, my last truck was an automatic, and I hated every minute of it. Nice being able to do multiple things, IE starting off from a stop going into a turn while on the cell phone. It was just so boring though, didn't feel like I was actually driving the truck, more just along for the ride. Also, now that I can't talk and drive without it being hands free, I would like to say it keeps me paying more attention to the road.

Tacoma was the first automatic I've owned. I was kinda skeptical at first but not anymore: Toyotas auto trans technology is up to par and gets better gas mileage than a manual and is no longer 'less reliable' than a manual. I don't miss shifing at all.

I'd say both are equal. At this stage in auto technology it's just a matter of preference IMO.

Auto for my 2010 Tacoma. My old Tacoma (98) was manual shift, but since I use my truck for my business a lot, I kinda like having to drive with one hand, and a cup of coffee in the other. Plus dealing with occasional gridlock traffic, a manual shift was getting old.

I drove an awefulmatic when I first learned to drive. Then my first car was an awefulmatic. Then I bought this clanky-econobox with a stick shift in it... and now am wondering why the hell I didn't drive stick before now. When I finally scrape the down payment together for the taco it will deffinitly have a stick in her.
