While waiting for The Port to bolt on/stick on @#$% to my truck, I decided to RTFM.

An option is to enable an automatic parking brake that will engage the break when the transmission is shifted into P and disengage when shifted out of P.

I started driving at a time when transmissions were not locked out by the ignition and/or brake pedal, so setting the parking brake was done, in part, to prevent accidental vehicle movement if shifted out of park.

What would be the use case to engage automatic parking brake?

Using it every time you park is a little excessive for sure.. but it has some small benefits. It could theoretically help the parking pawl inside the transmission, especially if you park on a non-flat surface. Also I've seen when they never get used the mechanisms can seize up and get rusty. So the first time it gets used in a while things can get stuck or break.

If it was me I'd probably leave it off (not automatic) but still try to use it daily or weekly to keep everything moving in there

I think that feature is becoming more common across the board. My buddy's 22 Ford explorer has it. But I don't like it. One of my guys at work had to have his car towed because it lost all power, couldn't even jump it. His Toyota hatchback thing had the feature activated and we couldn't figure out how to disable it to let the tow truck winch the car up.

Honestly don't see the point of it versus a manual parking break, just something else to go wrong.

Pretty sure my mom's 21' 4runner limited has an auto ebreak. I kinda like the idea since I use it all the time. I also park on a slight incline, so its kinda habit. nothing worse then feeling the weight of the truck shift onto the trans pawls

My driveway is on a pretty good incline, and the auto parking brake works perfectly. It is just more added stuff though, and I can understand why people don't believe in just adding more stuff.

Tacoma 100% has it. All toyotas have it. You put in park, or open door at slow speeds they kick in.

Once a tacoma arrives I plan on doing a video disabling it.

It's to prevent people from leaving without putting the vehicle in park. Many issues have come from users and smart keys over the last 2 decades and automated parking brakes are the result of all the stupidity.

I strongly recommend people in rust belt to disable it unless its desired or required (steep driveways)
