So I got my wife a ( new to us ) 2021 Tacoma with 24 k on it ( last week ) . drives great I have only gotten to take it to the gas station ( LOL ) but she just got it and took it out of town and said when the " take a break " coffee icon comes on that shortly after that the truck slowed down to 55MPH (from 70 ish ) . She said it happened more than once on this trip ( 800 miles ) she had to pull over and turn the truck off and back on to reset it. Now my ford ranger has the same thing minus the auto slow down. Has anyone else had this happen ?

I've never seen the coffee icon force a slow down.

That icon appears when you cause the lane departure alarm to sound 5 times in a row.

And I'm scared to ask why... Or if you're on cruise control when doing this.

I’ve also never had the “coffee take a break” icon illuminate and I’ve driven from Maryland to Montana and back. Lots of 5+ hour drives without a stop during that trip.

You might want to ask her what she was doing when that came on lol

I will take a minute to step off my high horse and say that there are legitimate reasons why the lane depart can alarm. I have had it pop up because it got confused by road seams. I've also purposefully shaved the apex when pulling my trailer through some back-road twisties. I have not had cruise on in either instance, so I don't know if that's what OP means by slowing down. I'm assuming that on nothing more than a wild guess, it's just that my truck has never slowed down when on manual throttle.

Yeah the only time mine has slowed itself down is when I have the adaptive cruise control active. But I stopped using that because it would slam the brakes on for no reason and it almost got me into several crashes.

don't know about slow down, but if it is related to SWS, it can be disabled.

talking with my wife she had the cruise control on, I asked her if it was possible that it just so happened that when the take a break message was on she caught up with someone in front of her and the additive cruse slowed down ( our ford ranger does the same thing ) she said oh ya that's possible ...

Sounds like everything is working then.

As one who has talked to the other house occupant many times when diagnosing car issues, I understand. As I said, the coffee icon pops up when the lane depart sounds one too many times, and I'll take the diplomatic route and say that I have driven over sections of road where they have laid tar-repair strips, and that really truly does confuse the truck's safety systems sometimes.
