Once they start rolling the streets in normal, sport mode (because they’ll be turbo happy), and most particularly in heavy duty conditions, we’re going to find out soon enough if it was the right call.

It's only a matter of time when manufacturers will alter the AS/S system to engage when the vehicle is at a full stop no matter how much pressure is in the brake system. The parking brake will also be engaged as a saftey device, because people are not applying enough brake pressure to keep the vehicle from moving with out activating AS/S.

When there was no need for AS/S to begin with because the fuel savings are not significant.

It's only a matter of time before the EPA makes Toyota put rear wheel disc brakes on these trucks

According to the manual someone posted on here on 4th gen . It states that needs time to cool down after spirited driving so I’m guessing regular driving is not going to damage it .

There is a TSB on the Corolla Cross - with the wiper on intermittent setting, the engine can quit and may not restart. I believe it a software fix. Mistakes happen, it's not just Ford, Toyota too. There will be mistakes on this Tacoma. (but unlikely to be an oversight regarding turbo cooling)

The Tundra turbo has an electric pump that circulates the coolant through the turbos, if need be, after the engine is shut off. That being said if you leave the HVAC on defrost or defrost and feet setting auto stop start won’t activate as the AC compressor is being used (regardless of the AC saying off in the controls)
Also you have to press harder than normal on the brake pedal to activate stop start on the tundra at least. So stopping normally, stop start never activates on my tundra.

There’s always the button to disable it on the left side of the steering wheel.

I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has the Auto Stop/Start. The first thing I did was get the module from Smart Stop Start. On my model it simply plugs into a wire harness under the seat. People think it disables the AS/S but all it does is defeat the default to on when you shut off the engine. So the system stays where you left the button. If you hit off then it will stay off until you hit the button on again. This has worked flawlessly for the past 5 1/2 years. I looked on their site and they don't currently offer for the new Tacoma but if enough people contact them, they will make one. Also, I have not read up on the Tacoma system, but on my GC the engine will not shut off if the A/C is on or if you turn the wheel before stopping since the system thinks you're just stopping for a stop sign and turning, not that you're stopping for a red light. There are also other parameters when it will not shut off such as when the engine is cold etc. But getting a device from a reputable company really works well and saves the aggravation and extra wear on components.

Not to mention all the sprained ankles and ruptured achilles that are going to happen from holding the brake pedal just right at red lights. These stupid engineers didn’t think this through at all.

Just keep it in sport mode, and the engine won’t shut off.

I think you’re overthinking this. If your ankle gets sprained or Achilles ruptured maybe driving isn’t for you? I assume the new Tacoma system will be almost, if not identical to the tundra, which is very intuitive.

I was hoping that was sarcasm but thought you were serious. Tacoma world is more like that than the tundra forums. All good

You folks remember that lively debate about idling the engine after going super fast? So funny this tid bit is in the Tundra manual but was not in the Taco manual.

I don't believe most owners read the manual. If the engine needs to pump coolant through the turbo after the engine shuts off, then Toyota should implement a system to do that, like my brother-in-laws Mazda sports car.

If the turbo is too hot the start/stop will not enable. If it does then the turbo is cool enough to utilize the SS function. I believe the turbo has its own independent cooling system to allow coolant circulation to it.
