I see a lot of post concerning the shifting points of the auto transmission. People are talking about the upshiting and downshifting of their transmission. I also experience this in my tacoma. I see people stating their truck downshifted to 4th gear then back to 5th gear and then has trouble upshifting back into 6th gear. My question is there a way to tell what gear your transmission is in other then guessing are looking at what rpms is showing.

Probably manually shifting it would be the only other way?

Only when you manually shift to a gear and even then it doesn't show for very long.
