Hi. I have 2005 Tacoma and it won't move past park. I found the bypass that will let me shift but does anyone know why this is happening? Some kind of selenoid or something for when you put your foot on the brake?
    Thanks

Brake light fuse blown? You will be a pedestrian if you don't have brake lights. The computer parks you until it's fixed.

I had that problem. It turned out to be a short in my trailer lights.

I read quite a few posts on the thread provided by @gearcruncher and saw references to the brake pedal switch. After seeing/reading the post on this thread about brake lights/trailer lights, I did another search and came up with this youtube video on the brake pedal switch.

    Question?

Were you doing any electrical work, perhaps with the stereo?

Many have blown the brake fuse during this work. ( I did)

Thanks to all. I had blown a brake fuse. Now the question is why…..And I learned a whole lot about that console.

In regards to the blown fuse, check all the bulbs and make sure none of the filaments are melted or touching each other. That could create a short. Also look at the bulb sockets closely for melting. Also the brake switch itself could be bad and result in the (fused) hot circuit touching ground or another circuit
