If I were going to be rock crawling or doing rough challenging trails I'd prefer an auto. For everything else I'll take a stick.

I texted with the owner this morning, and got some more pics, and tried to call him this afternoon so I could go look at it this evening, he responded by telling me he had sold the truck....:( Back to searching.

It's all good. A better one will pop up and you'll have a little more money put aside when it does

I ain't sweating it too much. It isn't the first that has been sold before I had a chance to look at it, I will just be quicker next time.

yeah the good deals in my area sell within 24 hours, usually same day if a double cab 4x4 with low mileage. Good luck!

    Interesting, I'm the exact opposite.

I used to have a 97 5 lug 5-speed, and I HATED that thing for commuting/being stuck in traffic. Clutch in, neutral, clutch out, wait, clutch in, 1st, clutch out, move 5 feet, repeat for 10 miles.

I prefer an auto for daily driving. It's just easier and less to worry about. For wheelin' I'd prefer a 5 speed, although not to the point where I'd go through the trouble of swapping my current rig's auto for a 5 speed (which I did years ago on an 86 4Runner I had), or getting another truck...

Maybe one day if I build it into a rock rig I'll throw a 5 speed on it... But I'm building it as more of an overlander.

I'm just about to buy a donor Tacoma, fully running and nice body for resurrecting my taco and the donor is an auto. You can bet I'm not keeping that but it'll be fun to see just how gutless a 4cyl can really feel.

    Before I bought my doublecab, I test drove a 6 lug prerunner with a 4cyl auto (2.7 I think).

That was a big ol bowl of NOPE.

My 97 5 lug was a 2.4 5 speed, and that thing had more pickup (lol) than that pre-runner.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer manual and have never owned an auto. It annoys me to drive an auto, but they have an advantage on the trail and the track (drag). So if I ever build a purpose built rock buggy or drag car it'll be an auto.
Having said that my Taco will probably be getting a crawl box next spring.

The thing I dislike the most about autos besides shifting themselves is the lag when you floor it. Other than that it's all good :burnrubber:

Depends on the auto, purpose built racing autos that don't shift themselves and react quickly kick ass. Toyota Tacoma autos from the 90s.... Kinda really lame response and shift times. Haha
