I found this air intake on eBay for $89.99 and said well lets try it. Its a warm air intake it's a given. I know stock air intake is Damn good I did the secondary delete and also the black thing in the fender delete with an Afe drop In. I also have LCE headers on my 2tr. This intake I was expecting to mod a way for the MAF sensor and basically everything else. But it was a direct bolt on! Took about 20min to install and taking it for a quick spin it was good. Damn loud but it seems pretty good. I will see how gas mileage is this week but for how cheap it is compared to other brands similar to this it's I'm very impressed with it.

Good luck. But now you are sucking in all that Hot Air from under the hood...

    this.

Any mpg gains will be due to the engine using less fuel to account for the hotter air you will see under the hood... this also directly correlates to LOSS in performance.

This is a trial. I will most likely end up modding this intake to take true cold air or just throw back on stock. But for the price it's Damn good!

honestly $100 is nothing compared to dropping 300 something on k&n intake. That's only 2.5 hours of work.

I am glad you like it. I'm not trying to knock you, I just wanted to make sure you understood that it is a hot air intake.

Yea I know it's a hot air intake I wanted to see how it would do. And Im working on making this a true CAI. I might try and follow URD on how they did their intake

My hesitation/concern in trying some generic no name brand would be what kind of filtration are you getting. Iirc even K&Ns let more particles through than the stock paper filter.

Stock intakes are not end all be all. They are designed with emissions and noise control devices which makes them less efficient. However this might not help anything. I would rather hear my truck with this than stock intake.

    Brap Brap!

Hey OP what's the brand name of that intake? Or do you have a link to it. I tried to search for it on ebay and couldn't find it.. I'm looking for the same thing for the same amount.

If someone finds an intake that consistently increases MPG sign me up. I think this is only available via warm air intakes like this one.
Question: Do warm air intakes damage the engine or cause it to degrade in efficiency over time? I know warm intakes are said to increase mileage for the cost of power (Fine by me for a DD) but is that where the cost ends? I have heard of "heat soaking" where an engine loses efficiency over time due to running too hot.

If a warm air intake safely increases MPG I'm all for it.

Most cars come with a stock warm air intake. It does no harm at all.. imagine I drive my truck from my house (-30 C) and go all the way to Mexico (+30 C). Same difference. You're just changing how 'thick' the air is. That's why in the winter most drivers in cold areas see a drop in their mileage.. and vice versa in the summer. But the hotter it is the less power you'll get.

naw no real harm in hot air intakes so long as engine temps stay under wraps which in all honestly intake air temps dont effect engine temps much at all.

I have actually experimented with pulling the intake hose off my V6's stock intake so it pulls warm air from the engine compartment and got marginally better MPG's. I did notice the truck felt more labored especially once up to temp and moving slow (when underhood temps are highest)

The enthusiasts use warm air intakes. I would like one but not 24/7. Sure would be nice if it were selectable with a button. That seems like something automakers could draw up. Hell, the Colorado has shutters to block the grille opening that opens and close.

It's autogrimmig air intake. on eBay they have it called just a short ram intake

So drove about 200 miles with this intake. Dang its loud for sure! only when you in high RPMS. for performance and loss of power or gain. I have to say it's very close. With my header/exhaust combinations I would have to say I could of gained a few ponies but nothing to Brag about. It gets a good amount of air coming through the grill and headlight area. My only concern is when crawling all the head might effect it. I guess time will tell.
