Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of a deer running out in front of you while driving, and did the TSS system engage, and did this system help lessen the damage to the vehicle? Had a white tail doe about 4 ft tall, running full speed on the passenger side front, and I was doing about 55, sounded like the deer just bounced off the front bumper, no damage, not even a scratch, which I was surprised. Or just maybe the thing was too small for the system to pick up?

So my question is this: we do have lots of deer and hogs where I live, and almost daily, they are getting run over. But the TSS system never engaged. Could it be because the deer was too small, or the angle it came in at the system did not have enough time? I would say I saw the deer and then about 2 milliseconds later, I had hit him. What is the response time for the system to engage?

I don't have it on my truck but believe the auto braking only works at lower speeds.

The TSS is more for vehicles at a stop and the driver not braking. A deer approaching from the shoulder will not activate the brakes as the deer could be mistaken for street signs for other hazards on the side of the road that will not enter the road. It is a nice feature to have that ASSISTS the driver with everyday driving activities but isn't intended to replace an alert driver.

To the best of my knowledge auto braking only activates with the adaptive cruise control on. I’ve also been hit by a deer from the right side, it hit my front wheel and did no damage. May have lived another day.

What about the PCS (Pre Collision System)? It does not require the adaptive cruise control to be on to brake and keep you from hitting something or someone.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I've never had the experience of auto braking at any other time except when in Adaptive Cruise. The annunciator and the dash warning to BRAKE comes on sometimes, but no Braking. I generally find it annoying as I'm usually already on the Brakes when the warnings come on. This is not a complaint as I do believe all this nanny stuff will indeed reduce collisions over time.

However, at your prompting I just read through the appropriate pages of the Owner's Manual and yes Auto Braking should be possible with PCS. I guess I'm not that aggressive or inattentive of a driver to have personally experienced the Braking under anything but Adaptive Cruise Control.

Sorry, I was speaking from experience only and not "Knowledge".

The radar must be on. It will show RADAR READY for 10 sec in the display. Then the PCS works. Does not need the adaptive cruise control engaged.

I don't believe its designed for emergency braking at higher speeds. It would sooner have you hit the deer than have the brakes lock up at highway speeds.

Also animals don't register on the older TSS, the newer models can detect and brake for people but also not likely at higher speeds.

My '19 will yell at me to brake if I get too close to a car when driving but doesn't apply the brakes outside of radar cruise control.

I've had a deer run out in front of me a few times but always with enough distance that I could avoid them and the sensors never went off

Getting a good set of fog lights really helps to (legally and not blind other drivers) illuminate the sides of the road. Diode Dynamic ss3 fogs are a great investment.

I always run mine from dusk to dawn when driving highways.

My 2017 doesn't have TSS. I make good use of the ABS quite frequently though and yes it definitely helps.:burnrubber:
