This is my argument. I paid $60k on my “tool” but I use it as a tool carefully and respectfully and I also use it as a recreational vehicle and a transportation. If I purchased a cheap $30k truck then yeah I guess I would less worried about scratches. If you guys can stomach scratching up a beautiful paint on your $60k truck that’s up to you.

Depending on the latching mechanism and what style of wash your using there is very little to no concern.

Touch less in bay auto's 0 concern

Soft touch in bay minimal concern.

Tunnel wash mild concern. These have the highest strength brushes and if the top brush isn't balanced properly it "could lift the cover on reverse rotation but not all washes run reverse rotation down the back"

I would worry less about the cover and more about the quality of the wash. Soft touch friction wash is perfectly safe and works damn well IF the wash is maintained and high quality soaps are used. Working in the industry you see alot of things that make you cringe and alot of things that suprise you especially as I spend more and more time on the tunnel wash side of things

Touchless is best of the automatics. Robo brushes tend to do damage.

I stopped using car washes. The one and only time I took my Tacoma through the one it damn near ripped the passenger side mirror off. The mirror was flapping back and forth violently, though I would lose it for sure, Same car wash ripped 4 pieces of window trim from my wife's Telluride, luckily Kia replaced them under warranty. I'll just stick with handwashing or when the local high school cheerleaders have the next bikini car wash.

Imagine the big heavy clothes riddled with dirt, sand, grease, brake dust slapping your trucks panels over and over really hard. Because I know if you’re inside the truck you can hear and feel those things slapping the body panel. Your clearcoat is damaged.

Been taking my truck to Quick Quack car wash for 2 years. Over 100 washes. Not a single scratch or paint imperfection from the washes. Maybe Quick Quack is superior from other car washes, I don’t know, but the paint looks great.

This made me decide to look up the Paris Hilton / Carl's Jr. car wash commercial. YouTube wants me to sign in to prove my age to see it. Tempus fugit.....dammit.

It takes just as long to wash your car, as it is to drive to the car wash place and drive back……..

want to really see, how good those auto car washes do……….clay bar after and look how much comes off….

Wow, you’re a moderator making a comment like that on a truck forum? Standards must be pretty low to qualify for that position…

I have a rack on the top of my cap. I'm not comfortable with it going through a carwash. There is a chance something could get caught in the rack and damage it. I use a long-handled brush and give it a quick wash about twice a year. But I have unlimited washes for the other vehicles in my driveway. Mine are all work trucks, not show trucks. I have better ways to spend my time.

I do use my pressure washer occasionally to get the undercarriage and wheel wells that the automatic washes don't touch. I don't like for mud to build up there.
