My forerunner was stolen this weekend out of my backyard. I had screwed up and left my Tacoma unlocked overnight and the thief got into it, found my spare 4Runner key and some credit cards and has been spending up a storm driving my 4Runner.

What I would like to know is, is there a way to make the third gen Tacoma automatically lock itself after a certain amount of time? Any advice is appreciated.

    Thank you very much.

Mine re-locks itself if I unlock the doors with the fob, but don't open a door within maybe 15 seconds? I don't know if you can adjust it to just automatically lock itself though...I leave my dog in the running truck with the ac on from time to time, I wouldn't want it to lock itself in that situation

Yes, I've unlocked but not opened 5he doors to get past the pop and lock and it does relock itself but I need it to do that all of the time. I'd rather get locked out of it than accidently leave it unlocked all night.

Maybe something that can be adjusted in tech stream, but I kinda doubt it. Could you set an alarm every night to make sure it's locked? Or just lock it when you walk away from it? I always lock my truck when I get out of it, regardless of where I'm at.

There is no factory setting to autolock the doors after leaving the truck. Only the auto relock if a door does not open after some time. There are aftermarket alarms that have this feature.

OP, sorry this happened to you. Any spare house key or garage door opener to be concerned about?

Sorry for your loss, and you probably already know, but definitely don’t leave spare keys to other vehicles. That’s an easy steal, they’ll knock out the windows or do whatever. This happened to my parents years ago, though we believe it was the guys that work at the repair shop he took his car to.

OP, @Puppypunter could sell you a module that would do what you ask.
