My '14 doesn't lock automatically. Not sure if there's an app for that.

My 11 doesn't. Honestly i don't care for that option. Something about parking in parking lot late at night and my doors switching to the unlock position is just something i never cared for. Might just be me though.

^^ Agreed. I only like that feature for the auto locking...not auto unlocking. My last car was programmable with a few options for the auto lock/unlock.

I used to use it because my gf would like to pop the door before the car was fully parked, but with the Tacoma's opening from the inside while locked it's not a problem anymore to just manually lock them when we get in.

There is a switch on the back doors that you can flip so the back doors don't open from the inside. This is a safety feature for small children so they cant open them.

So if you're afraid of your doors unlocking when "parking in parking lot late at night" what are you doing there? Are you just parking to take a nap? Cause your going to have to unlock the doors to get out. Unless you're afraid of the shady characters around, in which case why would you be parking?

Muggings/car jackings etc happen in all types of situations and areas. I hear what the other person is getting at.

My old Jetta would automatically lock after I put it in drive and started to drive off. It would not unlock after putting it in park. I wish the Tacoma did this.

I've never had a vehicle that did this, but I don't really care to either.

It doesn't take much effort to lock the doors if they want them locked.

As a "new-to-me" 2012 taco owner I've done research on this. Unfortunately, the only way to get auto-locking door locks is with an aftermarket alarm.

Seems so backwards and arcane to me. I have two 2005 model autos [a Ford Expedition and an Audi TT] and both have options to allow auto-locking. Why a 7-year newer truck with conveniences like bluetooth, auto-dimming rear-view, steering wheel audio controls, etc. doesn't have auto-locks is beyond me.

I can't tell you the number of times in the short two-months I've owed the taco that I've rolled up to a traffic light, see some nefarious character walking about and look down and see the doors are unlocked. HATE IT!!

It's a hard habit to get into to lock the doors manually when you've been driving other cars for nearly a decade that take care of that safety feature for you….

BTW, for all those talking about auto-UNlocking doors. Never heard of that option and would absolutely hate them. Not to mention I can't imagine an auto mfr doing that since it would only take one car-jacking, rape, or similar to land them in a major lawsuit.

Honda does the autounlocking and so do most of the luxury names, but most of the time even with the doors locked you just need to pull the handle and the doors opens anyways.

As for the autolocking, yet another basic ( most econo sh* boxes have this functionality) thing Toyota doesnt give us Taco owners.

My 05 4Runner SR5 had locks that were programmable. I had mine set to lock when you take it out of park, and unlock when it goes back in park. But you could set it up many different ways.

I would have assumed the Tacoma was the same.

True, but how hard would it be for Toyota to put this functionality in the Tacoma. The frigin Corolla has it!
