I've had my 2016 TRD OR DCSB for about 6 months now and recently my auto headlights have not been working correctly. When the switch is on "auto", my headlights never turn off. In order to turn the headlights off in the daytime and get the interior lights to brighten, I have to turn it back to "DRL off". It started doing this about a month ago. Any idea of what could be causing this? Anything helps. Thanks!

I do. I've got a folded flag over there. I'll check that and see if that fixes it! Thank you!

There's a little plastic dome on that side. It's a light sensor, it's how your truck tells whether it's dark out. If you've covered it, the truck thinks it's always night.

You can also adjust how long you want your lights to stay on after you turn off your truck and open your door. There is a menu in the stereo to adjust that. Also beep volume on the lock and unlock and if you want to open driver door only with one button push or all doors with one button push.

That fixed it! Thanks for the help! Never knew that's where the sensor was.

I learned about that sensor when my wife tossed her hat up on the dash, and the headlights came on.

30th anniversary coming up soon. And she had her own pickup truck when we met ... so, yeah. But pretty much the only thing I ever put on the dash is my FastTrak toll transponder. Just before the tollbooth, and then take it off right away.

I've got to resurrect this thread, as I'm having an issue as well, however it is the total opposite. This evening the headlights would not automatically come on.

I can get them on by turning the selector to manually turn on, but that is it.

I played with sensitivity settings, trying to get them to operate, both min and max sensitivity.... nothing.

I manually covered the light sensor 'button', to block all light.... still nothing.

    Thoughts?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe your sensor has gone bad?

Thanks, guess it's possible. Less than 4k miles on the truck?

That would be crazy if it is a bad sensor for a truck that new. That's just the only thing I can come up with. I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to electrical stuff  Hope you're able to get it figured out though! I know that it's sure annoying as hell when your headlights aren't working like they're supposed to!

I'm having an issue where occasionally my automatic headlights stay on even when it's bright out, I have nothing near the sensor, I have a 2018 Tacoma with approximately 4000 miles on it. Any suggestions?

Tried wiping down the sensor? How long do they stay on?

You can adjust the sensitivity with the radio.

I tried adjusting the sensitivity, I even tried parking in direct sunlight but they wouldn't go out. I had to turn them off manually, and when I put it back on the automatic headlight setting after manually turning them off, then they stayed off, but they should have went off by themselves in direct sunlight. I don't get it

Mine turned out being related to an aftermarket remote starter.

I had to send it back for repairs, and left the harness installed while this was being done. During this time, the automatic lights didn't work.

They began working again after reinstalling the remote start. Just an FYI....

Been having the same issue as OP. The headlights are in auto position, shut off truck upon arrival at work and lock it using the door handle lock button (which leaves lights on temporarily). Once i get to the shop door, ill lock again (partially ocd driven) and check to make sure all lights have shut off. But they have been staying on lately. BUT it has been -30* to -40* degrees lately, and i expected that it was just a relay freezing/too cold to release. Not sure if factory relay or the aftermarket remote starter box. I figured it was the aftermarket box, not overly concerned as it'll warm up again here and i'm not troubleshooting when its that cold out...
