Trying to get the short bed auto locking tailgate installed. Called my local yota dealership. Parts guy argued with me that it wouldn’t work on a 2016 sr5. I said no it does just order the part. After going back and forth for a while he agreed even though he was sweared up and down that it wouldn’t be compatible. Then he transferred me to his service advisor who won’t call me back lol. Is this an issue at all yota dealerships or just mine? I could probably do the install myself i know its not super hard to do but I don’t have time. Any suggestions? And is there any merit to it not working in a 16 sr5? From the research I’ve done it seems to work in any 3rd gen tacoma but maybe I’m misinformed?

I would just order the oem it it's worth it even if it's not listed. At the time I ordered mine for my 2017 OR it wasn't on the install list and it plugged in perfectly. The most time consuming step of the install is zip tying the harness from the tailgate to the inside passenger kick panel.

You dont have to get it from the dealer. They mark the heck up out of everything to pinch all their pennies.

Even Amazon has the Toyota factory one. (I think thats where most of us bought ours).

Amazon.com: TOYOTA Genuine 2019 & Newer Tacoma Short Wheelbase Tailgate Lock (PK3B6-35JS0) : Automotive

Its a little bit of a pain to install but just needs basic hand tools and some patience.

Not sure if theres any issues with it on a 16 sr5 though. As I recall you have to string the wire from the back of the truck to the front and install some relays.

This girl I dont know but seen her videos a hundred times covers it pretty good.

Order it on BAM Wholesale. Best price with shipping. I order all my OEM from them. As long as you have power locks on your doors it should work. Connects to passenger side door panel. Easy install, takes about 30 mins tops and that’s while watching the YouTube video lol. The pop & lock I’ve heard is good too, just a little louder than OEM. Personally, I just go OEM when given the option.

And if you’re very against doing it yourself: order the part yourself and schedule install time with the dealer.

Do it yourself. It will take as long as going back and forth to the dealer for drop off and install.

BAM is good to go. I made five or six orders from them with absolutely zero issues whatsoever. My next favorite is Sparks Toyota.

Dude easiest install you’ll do and it’ll make you feel like you accomplished something when you hear it lock lol.

Also yeah can confirm, BAM amazing. I’ve ordered like 4 orders from them, literally just got my order of the Pro tail lights from them today actually. Quick shipping, good deals. I’d go OEM over pop n lock solely since price is similar.

Ready to buy this for my 2023 OR, thanks for sharing. Can you confirm that the OEM part number PK3B6-35JS0 is the right fit for a '23 Tacoma Off Road? Thanks.

The tailgate lock is one of the top 3 "mods" IMHO.

OE 3rd Gen Tacoma remote tailgate lock:
    Short bed: PK3B635JS0
    Long bed: PK3B635JL0

Bought ours on Amazon but have also purchased other products from BAM. DIY took about an hour all-in. Pretty easy sliding around underneath with my trusty Magic Creeper. The biggest time suck (for me) was dealing with the little plastic guides in the tailgate and bed for the actuator and backup camera wire looms. They're über tight and not very cooperative.

Lots of good DIY vids out there like @2023TRDOffroad posted. That's the one I followed too.
