I did this recently as well. Had to watch multiple videos to get it right as the instructions that came with the OEM look like they are photocopies of photocopies of pictures taken in 1920. Almost removed the wrong grommet under the seat, and that dang push on nut never did go on like I saw in all the videos (actually held better upside down which is... not how it should work, but I left it like that). But everything works so far. Took a few hours. Make sure and wear gloves as much as you can, got my hands cut up a bit.

So, I ordered a tailgate remote harness/kit… LOL, I’m 67 and a mechanical idiot, so, how/who to install it? By buying the part myself, I probably can’t get a Toyota dealer to install it, and even if I could, it might be a fortune. I’ve thought about a car stereo shop as I’d think they’d be used to running wires, etc.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

It seems like a good stereo shop could do it. Like you said, they run wires for a living.

I'm 74 and found it quite easy. FYI, directions do not come with the kit so here they are. Read them over & see what you think.

I just installed it on my ‘23 OR. Took me about 90 minutes.

    I followed this YouTube video:
    https://youtu.be/gz-8j4S3Dkw?si=eSW6AGxVSagQ2vwm

I don’t think you’ll have any problems so long as you can remember righty tighty, lefty loosey.

Thanks! In a short amount of time, I've learned a lot on this site (been on here a few months and FINALLY got my truck about 1 1/2 weeks ago) I've been looking at youtube videos and it's starting to make sense, plus I printed off the 21 pages of instructions that grandpawmoses sent me the link on. PLUS, my son said he'd help me on the 29th so I think between the two of us (mostly him) I'll get it done!!! I'll check back in if it's a success, or just go away quietly if it's a failure! LOL

Well, I watched about 6 YouTube videos, read through the detailed instructions I’d printed off, sent my son a YouTube video that he watched, and I had everything laid out and ready for when my son got here today - 1 hour later it was done and I’m tickled!!!

    Well done!

Should have been that way from the factory IMO. One of the first things I added. Glad I did it every time I need to open the tailgate.

    Enjoy!

I had this installed when I bought my new truck...then I added a Diamondback Switchback cover...I should have done this to the 2019 I had...it really is a nice addition.

Well done. Next thing you know you’ll be putting a lift kit on in your driveway.
