    Took some photos of the wire run while under my truck tonight, maybe they can help someone.1st pic is the grommet where the wire harness exits the cab. Then the second shows the other side of the frame rail where you tun the wire.

    Third pic, at the front of the muffler you can put one arm on the outside of the frame rail and the other on the inside, then for the next few wire ties just kind of hug the muffler and it’s real easy to secure the wire

    Lastly, something non of the videos or the instructions show. At the rear of the bed there is a clip that the harness will attach to. The white plus was there from the factory, black plug is the harness to the tailgate. For the clip inside the tail gate that calls for rust prevention, just use a wire tie around the brace it is supposed to attach to.

    Glad to see this thread. I asked my dealership shortly after buying the truck in 2019 about adding the auto tailgate lock. They told me it couldn’t be done. I’ll be doing this in the near future! :thumbsup:

    @Wes36

    Are you talking about the LED Bed Lights?

    Not sure why mechanic would have the tailgate cover off to install Bed Lights...removing the tail lights gets you access to the wiring.

    You have a 2021 or later TRD so the Bed Lights & the Tailgate Lock should be plug-n-play...at least, they are for mine and were installed over 2 years ago, no probs! lol

    The connections are not even related to the wiring for the Bed Lights...and I've done both installs.

    What matters is the passenger side kick panel connection and the tailgate connection.

    Exactly and that i have watched youtube videos on it there on the passenger side and seen has nothing to do with the bed lights !! I think the mechanic was just lazy and not want to do it thinking of just doing myself !!! Thank you for your response!!!!

    my '22 offroad came with the LED bed light option. I just installed the OEM tailgate lock 2 weeks ago did not run into any issues. Took me maybe 1 hr total to install myself.
    Used the attached instructions. Although it says its for MY19, the instructions were exactly the same for MY22 with no deviations. The only specialty tool you need is a torx t-30 or t-27 to remove the tailgate panel screws. I would say you dont need to use the 1000 zipties the instruction and kit provides.

    I just installed the Pop & Lock version on my 23 OR this weekend. No issues and it works as expected. One suggestion, take a moment to spray the inside of your tailgate with Fluid Film/Woolwax or similar if you are in a rust prone area while you have it apart.

    Got the OEM kit installed today. Only deviation for me was that the main truck wiring harness does not run down the passenger side of the truck…it’s on the drivers side. Anyway, you can just keep the tailgate harness on the passenger side and put it on top of the frame. Some places I doubled up zip ties to make them long enough to go around the frame in places where an easy hole did not exist. Glad my tailgate locks now at the press or a button!

    OEM Kit here, installed myself in the garage. Had it for the past two and a half years now and hands down one of the best add on's installed on my truck. If you're on the fence, I'd say go for it. Especially those with tonneau covers and Softoppers. I've had it for both and loved it.

    Dude....every single video / instruction manual shows the wire harness on passenger side....get under mine and there is not a wire to be found on the passenger side. All of them are on drivers side. Was thinking what the hell, am i misunderstanding something.

    Do you have a long bed? Or is it a SR5?

    Not the author, but SR5 here and found the same thing out when I installed mine a couple weeks ago. I think the harness that goes down the passenger side might be for the power inverter the TRDs have that we dont.

    Yeah, figured out it's because of the sr5. Ran it in the frame and tied it as best as I could with what holes etc. where available.
