Automatic // Manual Transmission Starter Compatability

    2003 Dbl Cab Supercharged 3.4l 5 speed / 4x4
    Anyone know if an auto transmission starter will work on a Manual transmission? They look almost the same with slight differences to casing. Splines look the same as well as connectors. Auto is on top, manual on bottom.20241230_114448.jpg 20241230_114500.jpg 20241230_114510.jpg

    IIRC, they’re interchangeable. The top one is designed for cold weather (1.8kw) unlike the brown color unit (1.4kw).

    The difference is the kwh rating with the automatic being higher than the manual variant.

    If I recall correctly (maybe), think there were even different variants for the 4R though I can't recall if it was a cold weather thing or not.

    But yes they're interchangeable as mentioned.

    Most times you can just buy a "rebuild" kit and bring them back to life without having to actually replace it.
