I see a lot of complaints about manual transmissions. I wonder which transmission (auto or manual) has more complaints, per number sold?

Manuals have far less haters on this site than AT guys do.

Suppose it depends on the actual trans vs other crap around it. On the Manual, apart from reverse gear ratio the trans isn’t bad, but the throttle hang and hill assist Toyota add to manual trucks make it annoying as fuck to drive for me personally. Auto has bad 5 & 6th ratio, but the software mapping Toyota use specifically with this engines torque curve, is also annoying / bad mismatch.

Both have their pros and cons. It really depends on if rural/city driving and if you can tolerate rowing your own or absolutely hate the idea.

Most 3rd generation Tacoma owners would complain a gifted solid gold toilet seat is too cold on their pretty lil heinies.

Score 10/10 for dumpster fire thread though :locked:

That hill assist is only on the Sport.

    Yes .

Its actually not too bad. I mean i could drive without it no problem but we have some crazy hills here and it is kinda nice sometimes, saves the clutch i guess.

I could see how it would be really annoying if you are hardcore offroader.

They would probably put it in all model manuals but I think it has to do with the style brake booster/mc used in the OR and Pro.

No no, it's obviously the "pussy" 3.5L that is at issue here.

I can say this about the auto, it did learn. When I first bought the truck the tranny was lame. Changing to a higher gear all the time, drove me nuts. Over time (2500 mi) it has either learned or I have learned how to drive it.

Pussy 3.5? Is that the new word for that poor engine? If thats the case, there should be new TRD model.

You don't break it in, it breaks you in. I've had boots like that.

I think you are on to something. After 15k miles, I like the transmission. I think I learned to drive to get what I want out of the truck.

I drove a BRZ. Everyone with a manual transmission complained about the clutch feel. A year of driving and the clutch action was fine. I changed, not the car.

A year or so ago +, everyone & their brother were bitching about the auto trans. Seems to have tamed down quite a bit though.

I noticed that too and I’ve seen a rash of manual complaints.

By the way, wouldn’t their brother be part of everyone? :D

My SR MT has hill assist. I have learned to live with it.
The 2.7l and the 5 speed MT are a great match. No complaints.08020345-9FB4-479F-A196-B2EEE7B9EF0E.jpg
