not sure if this is the right place to put a mod thread but here we go...

im sure its been done before.. but i never really liked the extra length of shifter at the bottom of the shift knob... didnt care to much for the chrome color either so i shortened the shifter for a more low pro clean look.. i plan to pick up a 3rd gen shift knob from a member on here, cut the boot clip off and screw it on to complete the look im going for..

    this is before20180318_180146[1].jpg
threaded the extra space on the shifter before it stepped up to a bigger rod
20180315_234855[2].jpg heres how it sat after the first cut i made and test fit.. i wanted it lower so i made another cut20180318_181639[1].jpg
here it is after the final cut.. all together i prolly cut about 3/4" off the shaft20180318_184328[1].jpg

    20180318_184125[1].jpg

    20180318_184132[1].jpg
    heres what i cut off
    20180318_184345[1].jpg

im really happy on how this came out.. was def sketchy cutting it, i didnt want to mess it up or cut it to short that it hit the column when shifting it.. but it all clears perfectly

Looks great!! What size die did you use to cut the new threads on the shaft?

Don't think you have too cut new threads,as the shifter's threads don't start till a ways up into the shift knob.

    thanks! i used a M8 x 1.25 die
def had to make new threads farther down the shaft for this to work.. cut off almost all of the original threads.. only a little bit of them was left

Didn't realize I didn't like the extra length until this thread. Thanks for posting! Might be doing the same thing soon.

Did you just run the die down, or did you thin out the rod first, or something else I'm overlooking?

ya i plan on putting a 3rd gen knob on.. prolly just get a regular one.. not sure i feel like shelling out 100$ for a trd knob but it would be nice.. im just going to cut the boot clip off the 3rd gen knob and screw it on

Just copied the mod.... In less than 30 minutes I'm happy with the results. If I later decide it is to short, then I'll cut a new knob on the lathe
