I recently did a drain and fill on my 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 Automatic. I watched a lot of DIY Videos and also did some research here. There were many helpful posts. I decided to buy a OBD2 Scanner. I wasn’t sure what to go with but looked around and did some more research and went with the
Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0. Mainly because of the good reviews with IPhones. Has anyone else bought this model & have you had any issues. There are 3 different temps for the transmission..
1)[ECM] Transmission Fluid Pan Temperature var.3
2)[TCM] Transmission Fluid Pan Temperature var.1
    3)[TCM] Transmission Fluid Post-Converter Temperature var.1
They are only a few degrees difference the first being the least and 3rd being the hottest usually 185-189. Is this okay temp and which one should I be looking at when I change my fluid. Thanks!

Use the pan temp. The transmission pan temperature will be the most stable. The converter temp will move around depending.

You're adjusting fluid level in the pan with the check plug on the pan, so use the pan temp.

Thanks for the correction, I was quoting off the other thread but I see the temperature recommendations vary. Another thread said between 104F – 113F. Probably best to use the pin method.

Yeah I know that, there are 2 different pan temps. [ECM] & [TCM]. Not sure what that mean.

One trick you can do, and nobody mentions this and it is not in the service manual. You do need a lift vs ramps, ideally. After you drain the pan, re-insert the drain plug, lower the vehicle, then raise just the front of the vehicle. Obviously not a huge amount, and you will get 1 to 3 more quarts out of the torque converter depending on the transmission. Re-raise the vehicle and drain again before the refill procedure with the vehicle level, of course.

I actually taught this trick to my local Lexus service department when I was doing the service on my 06 LS430 UL, hah. It would equal 5.5 quarts vs 3.

Ecm is temp available under Engine control unit PIDs, TCM -Under Tranny control unit PIDs

1)[ECM] Transmission Fluid Pan Temperature var.3 should = 2)[TCM] Transmission Fluid Pan Temperature var.1

Could you elaborate on the " depending on the transmission " ?

Size of the transmission and how much fluid it takes to fill the system / inside the torque converter. All you are doing is just using gravity to get some extra fluid out of the torque converter.

I thought the extra 2 or 3 quarts were what does not drain out of the lower part of the pan.
    start at 6 min in.

Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand it is not recommended that you drop the pan unless a specific repair is needed. I don’t personally see any harm in doing it, but seems unnecessary. At least this is what a good friend / Lexus master tech told me.

2007 tundra has 115-133°F range for checking. I assume because that procedure has a pin thermostat steps, temp ranges got mixed-up.

How much came out during the drain ? And how much total fluid did you pump in ?

I would not do it but at at the same time leaving that much fluid in there is not the best thing to do.
maybe jacking up just the front of the truck is another way to get a least most of it out. my point was, what is in the converter stays in the converter.

The drain plug is the lowest point in the pan correct? I can’t imagine 2.5 additional quarts would come out by dropping the pan. Seems illogical. I can’t verify exactly where the extra fluid is coming from but it definitely helps get more of it out. I assumed it was from the converter…

5.7 is still 97 to 115. They amended numerous typos from that era.

Re-watching the video, maybe the drain plug is not at the lowest point in the pan. It’s hard to tell exactly, but one thing I noticed is that they heated up the transmission to nearly 140° for the refill, doh.
