There was a young man of the Tweed.
    Who sucked his wife's arse thro' a reed;
    When she had diarrhoea.
    He'd let none come near.
For fear they should poach on his feed.

There was an old man with a scanner,
Who beat on his truck with a hammer.
He checked on the scanner for brakes,
And now his heart truly aches,
    for it disappointed
Well Fk. It don’t do brakes…….

Beck Arnley is an aftermarket company (and not really one of the highly regarded ones). Toyota does outsource some manufacturing to other companies like Koyo, Aisin, Denso (all Japanese BTW), but not Beck Arnley. All aftermarket parts manufacturers always say, “OE quality” or “manufactured to OEM specs”, etc… but they are not OEM parts, and they’re almost ever quite comparable to the quality of actual Toyota OEM parts. I’m not saying that Beck Arnley filter won’t fit or won’t work, but when it comes to something as critical and temperamental as a an automatic transmission, I would not buy anything non Toyota.

Every time I've bought BA, it's been oem qualiy, such as Aisin or Denso. Other aftermarket brand have been Chinese junk. Have you even ever bought BA?

I sent the motive power fill back. The red metal filler attachment wouldn't stay put in the shut off valve. Hand pump with some longer hose it was. :annoyed:

Haha. Isn’t it fun! I did mine in the driveway. Stopped paying attention on one pump and the hose flew off and the entire pump went into the puppy pads I had down. Lesson puppy pads don’t absorb trans fluid and it just rolls off onto the driveway.

Just did mine yesterday. found a birds nest on top of the trans that filled a five gallon bucket.

The D&F took 2.7 quarts of fluid. confirmed with a code reader @ 100*f.

    Sorry, no pics.

For us with "sealed automatics" every 60,000 miles or 6 years.
For the older 4 or 5-speed "dipstick" automatics transmissions every 30,000 miles or three years.

If well over 100,000 miles and unknown, just don't touch it but keep driving.

For those of you utilizing redline, amsoil or ravenol, for trans fluid, are you doing a complete flush, or multiple drain and fills? or are you just dropping the oil, and replacing what was drained, and mixing in the new to old?

wondering about mixing the toyota WS spec fluid (I dont think it is synthetic), with the synthetic WS spec from say ravenol? making sure it is ok to mix toyota WS spec, with Ravenol WS.

@gearcruncher, any thoughts? thank you in advance. Ski

I would not mix. If under 100K miles, do a full flush.

Not a fan of mixing fluids . The molecular structure of transmission fluid can be very different between brands .
    What does this mean ?
It means one brand of fluid will fight the other brand of fluid instead of protecting your transmission
If you plan to swap to a different fluid , go ahead , but change all of it , then continue using that brand for the lifetime of the vehicle .
This ofcourse must be WS compatible fluid .
A lot of variables come into play here .

99.9% of transmission shops only use one type of transmission fluid in their shops .
It would be incredibly expensive to stock all the different brands not to mention the floor space needed to keep those different brands on the shelf
From there , they bring their fluid to your vehicles transmission fluid requirement standards by topping up with an additive.
Lubegaurd is one additive that works very well in Toyota transmissions and also has a proven track record here at Tacoma World .

With the above being mentioned , spend the 5 bucks on the transmisson pan gasket and take the pan off when servicing your transmission .
Removing the pan gives you a good indication of whats going on inside the transmission .
Gives you the opportunity to clean the magnets and filter .
That debris in the bottom of the pan has a story to tell .
If you simply remove the drain bolt on the bottom of the transmission pan to drain the fluid , you risk forcing anything laying on the bottom of your pan through your valve body .
