You sure? I think its standard because its not listed in my options and its nowhere in the manual I think? Yet I have it. Just one of those quirks built into the transmission I think.

I think mine only does it when I am Accelerating, Not slowing down. I think most here have the problem when Accelerating also.

Here's an update: my dealer says this is a known problem, and that there is a technical review under way under what I think he called a "task order." He predicted 8-10 months to a TSB with new programming. In the meantime, he suggested driving the truck a bit more aggressively, claiming that this helped the adaptive programming do a better job. I'm skeptical, but at least they know of the issue and are working on it. They are also working on the lunging problem after stops and that is probably a programming issue as well.

That's a bit of good news, climber - at least they are working on it. I could sense that the service manager at my dealership is getting tired of telling all these brand new truck owners "sorry, I understand it's a problem but there is nothing we can do" Hopefully a reprogramming TSB will do the trick....

Great, the possibility of another TSB to fight over...at least we ARE getting some sort of forward movement on this issue (obligatory "half-full" comment).

    Too few to list.
I don't have an automatic but I've driven many automatics including Tacoma's and I've notice there always seems to be some sort of slight lag with electronicaly controlled engines (drive by wire) and trannys although some ecu's adjust to driving habits. When I first got my taco, I've noticed some of the fluids were low. Seems like Toyota is cutting back and only filling things up to minimum specs.

Just to add to the topic. I have an 09 with a little over 10k and my truck does the same thing as the majority here

I have a 09 DC 4x2 auto...around 3600 miles..i agree the transmission is kinda jumpy, but the only problem that i've been having (well not really a problem) is when i'm coasting, it tends to downshift its gears a little rough. i've driven a toyota highlander and with the foot off the pedal it would downshift smoothly however for the tacoma it is noticeable. Otherwise i have no problems with it..accelerating and whatnot

Has it always done this? It is probably a normal characteristic of the grade logic system of the transmission. The throttle pressure has to overcome the mainline pressure to shift, when you decel the computer is monitoring the baro, tps, fluid psi, and brake switch. If you suddenly hit the gas right before the threshhold of the shift, It's takes a second for the pressures to be ready for the next shift up or down. This is normal. You will probably notice other people that are complaining about this also have low mileage so they're just now noticing it.

Does account for cornering by using yaw sensor pedal input and steering angle sensor. One could possibly be out of wack. Reflash could help.

Ther was a tsb for low fluid levels out of factory don't remember what year it was

Went to the dealer for the first 6k oil change, mentioned the shifting issue and TSB-0373-09. He looked it up, performed the ECM Flash and fixed the prob. No more wierd shifting patterns!!!! Go check it out

Where exactly do you find the yaw sensor pedal ?

Is it next to the brake or accelerator ,

I too have heard that the transmission on some are not completely filled from the factory.

    Try toping off the fluid.

Either that or it might be time for a complete change, tho not likely.

So far from what I have read the computer is to blame. New electronic transmissions have a tendency to stack shift( shift up or down 2 gears at a time 1......2.....3......4..5) it is very harsh on the clutch packs.

just got mine back from the 3rd dealer and the tech says all he did was add about 1 quart of transmission fluid and it seems to shift alot smoother. mine is a 2008 but had a matching vds in the tsb. The first 2 dealers told me this was normal as did the 3rd dealer but the last did check tranny fluid level.

if you tow heavy loads you will actually like the way it works.its always at optimum torque range.so no problem for me.just stop completely and it wont do it.

Sounds like DBW throttle lag. I had a VW Rabbit with 5 speed before and it had horrendous throttle lag. No engine braking at all when you wanted it and I had to completely re-learn how to shift.

I haven't noticed it on my Tacoma though, mostly cause it's automatic I suppose. Could this be something peculiar to the 09's?

The TSB cures the wonky shifting. The "lag" is caused by the trans shifting down to first at too high speed, for a given throttle position.
