Automotive Paint Questions? Trying to start a thread to help out THE TW FAMILY

I think this is awesome, Paint is one thing I've been apprehensive about. I guess I've seen to many crappy paint jobs. This has potential to be a very useful thread.

 

Can you recommend a good 2 stage touchup paint brand? One you can spray from a detail gun?

 

What paint brands you carry in your area? We can start there. Then I can recommend the best one. Also depends on what your trying to touch up. Chips , scratches etc.

 

Any tips on applying touch up paint from the little Toyota Touch Up pens? Also, do you put the touch up clear after as well or just the paint? Mainly just rock hits. Painting noob here.

Years ago once sanding down to the metal , and there was still rust in the pits (when panels were thick enough to have pits ) I used to use a product called Navel Jelly on it . It would turn the rust black and usually not rust again . Then there were and are other rust convertors since and now . what is the best to use now before priming ?

Ive always used a wooden toothpick

 

No need for clear Your on the right track. Just use the touch up from oem bottles. Works well. Just on the rock chips. Great job!!They also sell awesome touch up tips from your local bodyshop supplier

 

Treat the metal remove rust as best as possible. Applying epoxy primer is the best. Or a product POR 15.

If I remember correctly, the Navel Jelly was to remove the rust, The Extend Rust Converter is the stuff that turner the steal black.
