Haha. Its kind of funny people complain about this. Vented Disk brakes are a better option for sure but if you looked closely, most rear disk brakes are non-vented... The 2nd gen rear disk brake conversion kit wasn't very popular because people actually lost stopping power.

Could be. I think its more to do with ignorance. Drums get it done and are cheaper in every way. Im ok with rear drums unless Im racing or towing serious shit.

Don't care about resale value, I buy vehicles as a tool. Better payload, 30+ mpg and a a hell of a lot more torque available at a low rpm for hauling a camper and pulling a dirt bike trailer...yes please!

I admit it, if the 2016 came out with the 1GD engine, I would consider selling my 1st gen and get a diesel Tacoma...

Rear drums are great for the first 5-10k miles. Then they are typically out of adjustment. Perhaps drum technology has progressed in the last 10 years since I was a mechanic? But all the vehicles that were a year or two old you could spin the rear tires by hand when someone was standing on the brakes with the car in the air. Adjust them out with a screwdriver and you're good to go.

Give me a 1GD with a manual and I'd pre-order today. C-channel frame, drums, manual seats, Johnny-5 radio, underbite, etc. would be a moot point.

Not sure about the other trucks but from what this states, the TRD gets the 8.7 I thought Sweers said in January that all had been increased but could be wrong.

Drum brakes effectiveness deteriorates exponentially as technology advances. In a year or two, they will be useless.

You made a very poor metaphor. We've been seeing you blunder and trip through your logic for a while now, nothing new.

Good for you. My drums on my 2000 civic have brought me to work and back hundreds of times. But the 2000 civic Si's with disc brakes stop better and I would prefer those instead.

So you got my point, just because something does not apply to you does not mean its not a problem..
In this case ABS does not apply to people in California because all you have is nice dry weather, and clean mall parking lots.

Disk doesn't always beat drum. Not many people runs this kit because the drums worked better: https://www.trail-gear.com/TG/Tacoma_Rear_Disc_Brake_Kit/i_0_0_3431/_144039-1-KIT.aspx

Lots of manufacturers advertise rear disk brakes as an upgrade when its really its not much better than drum brakes :notsure:

At least I am capable of swapping to disc brakes ...
All my other Toyota trucks have disc brakes already... I guess only Tacoma comes as poverty option

    See what I did here ... :D
