I have a backup camera under mounted on my steel bumper.
Last night i was just wishing i had a more visible range out back.

Does anyone have an under mount camera with some kind of aux pods also?
I dont want to white wash the camera but i definetly want more light coverage than the bulb mod in the factory housing.

I was thinking of some small 120 deg led light pods like the ones below.

    https://www.superbrightleds.com/mor...in-modular-led-off-road-work-light/1699/4130/

I want something tight to the bumper if possible so its not in the way of anything.

Does your BU camera have Night Vision capabilities ??

On my BU camera I went from a cheap camera to a more expensive night Vision capable camera and noticed much better vision at night

My view st night went from grainy hard to view to super clear vision almost HD quality !!

I changed out my reverse lights to led ones that are super bright. Made a world of difference backing up in the woods at night.

it does have a little night vision. Im not un pleased with it, just want to see a little wider and further.

I like the looks of that little light. Thanks for the tip, i may try it out. How wide does it throw?

could probably wire a couple of those together for each end of the bumper and tie into the yellow hitch wire since they are so low voltage

That's not what he means by "night vision".
He was asking you if your camera can see the INFRARED spectrum. The thing about infrared, is that it can't be seen by a HUMAN eye, which means that you can blast it like you're lighting up a football stadium. Your camera will see it, but it won't blind anyone.

ahh, misread that. Def not infrared, at least the Amazon listing for the camera does not claim it.

Got the actual Amazon link? Is it an analog or digital (usb?) camera? Different cameras have wildly differing degrees of low light sensitivity. Going with a better quality camera can make a huge difference. For instance, a 1/4" sensor will only receive a QUARTER of the light as a 1/2" sensor would, and certain better quality sensors can receive light better -- in other words, have the same effect as a larger sensor. Variable framerate cameras can work especially well in low light, since they can reduce the framerate in order to be able to receive more light per each picture.

And to top it off, there are some VERY new techniques being used to enhance low light photography. Google pixel 3's camera software has a new feature (which is promised to be delivered to pixel 1 and 2 "soon") to enhance low light photography by essentially taking a bunch of short exposure pictures, adjusting them to align, and "adding" their light together. This yields the same effect as an extremely long exposure, but without the enormous sensitivity to motion. In other words, you can hold the camera in your hand, take a shot with a 5 second exposure, and there is NO BLUR. However, I would estimate that it will probably be a few YEARS before you see this technique hit mainstream, and naturally, for video, it would have to be at a higher frame rate.

Ok, yeah. Not a whole lot you can do with that one that wouldn't cost WAY more than replacing the camera with something better.

Even this CHEAPER camera has infrared, and would probably do a better job: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MCKA5Q
Now the one I linked to actually tells you what sensor it has, which in that case, is an OV7959, which is a 1/3.6 inch, which is a tiny bit bigger than a 1/4" -- not a *terrible* sensor, but not great. But to be honest, you probably won't be able to find anything with a decent large sensor for that kind of price. And by that, I mean something like a Sony IMX323 1/2.9" low light sensor -- for something like that, you would definitely be looking at a conversion to digital, and a dramatically higher price tag. Something like the better part of $100.

Yeah, for where i have it mounted, I would like to keep the cost down just in case. If i have to grab a new one every 2-3 years for $19 bucks im ok with that.
I have no complaints on the camera as far as resolution, grid lines, compatibility, etc.
Thank you for the detailed info, why i enjoy this site so much.
