Did some searching and found lots of references to people installing led aux lights by tapping into the reverse light. I couldn't however find any writeups on how this is done. Am only interested in the lights coming on when truck is in reverse. Have no need for them to also be on a switch.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What you use has to be low enough in amp draw to not impact the existing wiring and fuse for that circuit. If they meet that criteria, you're good to go.

Beyond that I'm not sure just what you are asking. Maybe a tutorial on how to splice into your reverse light wiring?

I got some led flush mount cubes for my rear bumper. I just tapped into the reverse lights and didn't add another fuse or relay. LEDs don't draw enough especially for the little that they get used.

FYI if i had it to do again I'd try a diffused light pattern. I got flood and at night it washes the backup camera out and it's pretty much unusable.

I put a set of Pilots on my 01. I made brackets for them too, because I didn't have a hitch yet. The kit is meant for hitches.

I realize this is a first gen setup and you have a second gen, but the wiring is going to be basically the same if you tap into the reverse light lead, which this kit does. The other single wire you see under the bed coming out of the split loom and into small coil loom is the ground.

For my '15 I just got, I'm going to look into a similar kit but LED, and I may make it switchable from the cab.

Below I copied an old thread where someone else was asking a similar question. In it I described my personal aux reverse light setup and the way I wired it.

Basically how I have mine is with a relay, and the relay trigger wire is fed both by a switch and the reverse light wire in the cab, so that either source will trip the relay. If you don't want a switch, you can simply disregard that part of the schematic I drew.

If you have the factory tow package, you can tap into the reverse wire at the 7 pin connector, and your aux. reverse lights will come on when the vehicle is in reverse.

    Thanks for the great responses
I do have a factory tow package. do I tap into the pin connector itself or a wire feeding it. Does that wire have a color or way to be identified. Also read that some folks had to replace or add a fuse behind the glove box if they went this route?
