    Hi,

I've been looking for a specific configuration for a new Tacoma (4x2 Access Cab/AT/SR 5 package) and am being told Toyota doesn't sell those in Arizona. My B.S. detector goes way off the charts when a dealer says that. There are currently 16 with that configuration in California, and I found 1 in northern Arizona, just not in the color I wanted.

Why would dealers give me a line like this? And not just one, but several.

Cuz they want to sell you what is on their lot today. It's much easier for them.

I had no problem ordering mine. They got it there in under 5 days straight off the truck.

They can get it, just plan on paying the carrier fee. In MN it was $850 to have a truck shipped.

Search around other dealerships out of your immediate area. Can negotiate with them and then go pick it up. Whether that requires a plane ticket and some gas money or not, it could still be a heck of a lot cheaper.

Just go to a different dealership, maybe two different ones, get a price and go back to the originals. You can do that for a few days, you'll be amazed how much they'll compete. I guarantee one of them will work with you.

You can order anything you want. It's true that certain regions get more manual trannies, less pre runners etc. it's supply and demand.

The Pacific Northwest seems to get more manual transmissions. When I was considering a baja there were no manuals in the east. Every dealer i spoke with confirmed that my region lacks in manual trannies.

Additionally it's hard to find pre runners in areas that get snow.

The dealer is not running you wrong. Just order one.

The ones in my area won't even order one. The book they go by says they can't. It's wrong.

I have folks within the company I can talk to to clear this up. Before I bothered them I just wanted to make sure I wasn't off in left field somewhere.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I'd walk! If they don't want to work with you by getting what you want how will they treat you after the sale? I've had this bs pulled on me before and I won't even consider going to those dealerships. The dealership where I bought my new at the time '07 didn't have a spdwy blue dc Prerunner, found one 120 miles away got it and no extra charge, just wanted me to understand that it would have those miles on it when it was delivered.

Like was said, they just want to move their inventory. Buying a vehicle is a big investment, get exactly what you want, it'll be worth the wait and effort.

    Jim

So Toyota used to send certain configurations to certain regions but, a dealer preference or dealer trade shouldn't be an issue. I'd go to another dealer or the selling dealer (of the one I wanted) if need be...

    bcconer,

Try building the truck you desire on Toyota home page for your region, using your zip code.

**** I forgot to mention I want 6 speed…. which is prolly the main factor why is being hard to find…

I contacted a few salesmen in different dealers and let them know I'm willing leave a deposit if they found me the truck just the way I want it…. this was just on Sat afternoon so I'm going to wait 'til the end of this week because of the holidays and all…. if I dont hear anything im going to start contacting dealers directly on the west coast and see what we can do….

    Bullshit-
I wanted to order a 2010 DCLB sport in pyrite from the dealer closest (most convenient) to me. (Mountain States Toyota) They were happy to take my $500 deposit, but then called me back the next week and said " the DCLB sport is not available in pyrite" Drove across town to a dealer that wanted to provide better customer service and not lie to me. (Go Toyota Arapahoe) Been driving it for 3 years now. Not bad for a truck that is not available. Mountain states also dragged their feet on returning my deposit, but eventually did. Now I will not give them one dollar of my business. Get EXACTLY what you want. You will never regret it.

Exactly what everyone else is saying. Get what you want, even if it takes some shopping around.

I've never found worse sales people than when I went to buy my truck. Searched around four dealerships before finding someone who was good to go.

I don't trust ordering. I just don't trust that most dealerships just want the sale, and then try to give you something different, or change the deal. I like making a deal for what is right in front of me. No surprises. My $.02

You'll need to order one. That's what I did and I'm in ct. The only dc trd 6 spds were at dealers that did not want to let the car go to another dealer.

So I assume restaurant menus also confuse you?
    That whole concept of ordering.
