    That is a very good observation. Perhaps I will trade my truck within the next two years.

    I got rear ended in my 2012 a week after I bought it. Body shop had to replace the bumper and repaired a little frame damage. I hired a company that specializes in diminished value claims. They charged me $300 for their work. They told my that my truck diminished was about 4K and they provided me paper work to prove it. When I called the Insurance company (state farm) and told them, they said that the best they could do was $2800. Not 4k, but better than nothing.

    They'll fight that the truck was only worth x amount at trade in which will be substantially less than you would need to be made whole depending on your policy.
