All you getting great MPG, you got lucky. Your truck wasn’t made on a Monday or Friday.

These trucks aren’t aerodynamic and don’t like over 70.

my 2.7 4x4 Manuel with heavy E Rated 32’s gets 21-22 every tank. I think it has 4.30’s.

My 06’ Tubdra 4x crew cab on 33’s get 16-17 as long as I keep it under 70. And it has a a V8
    :burnrubber:

I think a lot has to do with driving style.

2001 double cab 4x4 here. I check every fill up just for curiosity, and get roughly 14 mpg at about 95% city driving. I did an 800 mile round trip this summer and kept it about 65 on the highway (didn't pass a single person lol) and got around 17mpg.

I'm getting 17mpg city and highway mixed. Pretty much what everyone else says. I'm nearly bone stock.
I have a P0171 (lean on Bank 1) code that I'm trying to get rid of but I have a feeling the fix won't make any difference.

Looking at the new Tacoma's... they get 1mpg better. Sorry Toyota. That's not progress. Yes, they have more power but seriously, sub-20mpg in the year 2022? That's horrible.

There's a ton of people posting, but here are numbers from about 7.2 million miles. Hard to beat THAT kind of data collection

    https://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tacoma?engineconfig_id=100&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=

Anecdotally - I also saw higher MPG when I put a soft tonneau (not topper) on, by about the same - 1-2mpg ish. Bigger change highway than city.

What wheels and tires do you have? That makes THE biggest difference. For example, I have on my truck:

    • Steel front bumper
    • Steel rear bumper
    • Steel IFS skid
    • Steel sliders
All of that. And my MPG is.....about unchanged from stock. Below is my chart from purchase until now. Things were added over that time.

Bigger wheels and tires is what saps your mileage. Everything else is noise in the data. Increasing your tire size is THE worst thing you can do for your MPG. A heavier tire (IE going to E load for the same size) will probably give you an appreciable effect. However, and take this with a grain of salt since this isn't even MY anecdotal evidence, that's barely noticeable verses going to a larger diameter.

I work only 7 miles from my house and have to go thru about 10 stop lights/signs along the way. Daily driving I only get 15 MPG.

Just got back from a trip to Yosemite. 400 miles mainly freeway the whole time, did not hit any major traffic, tied to stick to 60 to 65 miles per hour. Truck with shell on it, rock sliders, 4 people in cab, and luggage in bed. I got 22 MPG in both directions.

    Tires - Falken Wildpeak 265/75/16.

Longest road trip I have taken so far and pleased with the MPGs.

V6 Manual Transmission. I'm regularly 18 MPG in the summer if I'm not towing the bass boat, up to 20 if it's straight highway driving. In the winter, in part because I let it warm up (Rochester, NY), I can get as low as 15 MPG.

‘02 double cab with 32”E load 2.5” lift. I’ll get 19.5mpg @65mph all day…in the city it’s pretty bad due to stop start.
I feel like you’re mileage really drops when you have to get all that mass moving over and over but once you’re on the highway it’s not really affecting overall distance. ?

I tend to agree which is why I only went up to 265/76/16s in tire size on my Offroad, and went with SL rated (Falken Wildpeaks). Dropped about .5 MPG. I never did a long road trip with stock tires so I have no comparison, but just did a 400 mile trip mainly freeway last week and go 22+ MPG at about 65 miles per hour with cruise control on. I was pleasantly pleased. I also have added weight with an ARE shell, sliders, Prinsu Rack, Bed Mat, some other odds and ends. Weight adds up FAST! And I have a 1.5" suspension upgrade lift all around.

LOcal driving I was getting about 15 MPG with stock wheels, with larger I get 14.5.

I didn't have a shell but I DID have a tent on there for ~250-500 miles (I don't leave it on year round, it's complicated). I have a soft tonneau, but skids, sliders, bumpers, etc. I've added a bunch of weight.

And my MPG was insignificantly changed through ALL of that.

I DO drive slow/steady though, typically 67-70 on the highways. It's a truck, not a hot rod :notsure: (that's what I call my wife's hybrid camry, because in comparison, thing's a hotrod)
