For all you guys who won't mind sharing, what is the average salary for a paramedic? The valve plant I work at is closing, And I'm looking into options, and I can take my EMT basic while I am still employed before they close. Then I would go to school for my full paramedic, and just looking into weather or not it is a financially rewarding career. I know it can be rewarding in the sense of helping people as well. That's why I chose to be a First Respond e at work when I started. Any help or thoughts are welcome!!

Yeah, I've seen all the averages and all, just not sure how much you can trust those figures. HAHA Thanks for the link though. Seems EXTREMELY informative.

Have you considered becoming a registered nurse? Starting pay is about double than an EMT.
I don't know what state you live in, but here in AZ you can work as a paramedic and then do bridge program for your RN. Here's a link to one of the local CC: https://www.mesacc.edu/departments/nursing/paramedic-rn

And that is for paramedic? In Louisiana that is around what an EMT basic starts around.

That actually doesn't seem like to bad of an idea. I wonder if Louisiana has anything like this. Time for more research!

A huge advantage of being a RN is that if you ever get bored in a certain department you always move/transfer. After you gain some experience you can also become a traveling RN and you can chose you assignments. Traveling RNs usually get paid more too. Here's an example of a job posting: http://dignityhealth.org/careers/jo...seasonal-traveler-13-week-assignment-4800hour

Here in the Atlanta area the average starting hourly for a medic is $20-22/hour. There is also a 1 year bridge program to RN in Georgia.

15.00 here in south ga at a decent busy 911 service . Expect to make around 45-50 grand working one job. But super easy to work two jobs if your into that. If you choose to do that route then around 65 to 70 a year. Back when I was an emt I think pay was like 10-12 an hour or 35-40 a year

If you have your associates in paramedic you only have to have two more core classes and you can enter the rn bridge program (1 year)

Working ems is like working with the rail road. There's money to be made, just depends on how much you want to work.

In NJ EMT's make $12 to $14/hr. Paramedics make ~$20/hr. Many of our Medics here in Jersey also work per diem in addition to their full time position, to boost their income.

Why anyone in their right mind would ever choose ems over fire is beyond me. You get the same feeling of helping people and you actually make money. And you don't want to jump off a bridge from being burned up after a few years. Don't be an idiot

I wish I had a passion to become a ff. I'd have a cake job here in rural South Georgia. Our city fire dept has an average of 1-2 calls a day v's our ems 20-25 calls per day.
