so i bought this brand new 16 TRD OR DC SB Manual trans, put 600 miles on it, and am showing im averaging 11.5 mpg...
I hope its just my style of driving, i drive a gti as well and i drive a little aggressive, but even the day i was shifting around 2000-2500 rpms, and i barely cleared 260 miles per a full tank..

Getting a little worried. Is this usual? And any tips to improve my mpg?

I'm not familiar with the 2016's but I know on my 2006 TRD Sport I averaged about 16-17 street and 20-21 highway thats before I added a 3" lift with 33" tires and now I get about 13-15 street and probably 17-19 highway even if that.

I have the TRD OR 4X4 DCSB and I consistently get average 16mpg at 13,000 miles. Posted speeds where I live is 75mph, but I drive at 70mph as the auto tranny shifts 100 times driving 45 miles to work, I drive at 70mph and it shifts maybe 9 or 10 times.

I drove on the i10 interstate once from Houston to Lafayette at 45 mph in heavy traffic for 3 - 4 hours and got 19 mpg.

I have the manual. I average 18.5 to 19.5 mpg per tank with an even mix of highway and city. I've got 4500 miles on the truck and the mileage hasn't changed since new.

Thanks for the input guys, seems pretty mixed, i do have a 2in lift with 33's right now, so that prob has a huge role, but i didnt think it would drop to 11 mpg, i do a lot of highway and city, but i live in so cal, so traffic makes it feel like all city driving.

What kind of tires? You can easily lose a lot of mpgs with big E load A/T tires.

Ah... Yes. That's pretty much it entirely. Someone on here posted a graph of mileage going down as tires and lift were added but happiness increasing.

See my signature below for every tank of mine besides towing and offroad. You should be getting better than 11.5 with a stock truck. Do you have larger tires, or a bunch of steel armor? I have 265's with skids, bedrack, Roof top tent, and I am still getting 18-20 with the manual and I drive fairly aggressive. I definitely do not baby it.

I shift around 3000 on most shifts. Are you running load range E 33's? If so, that is probalby a big part of your problem, but I would think 14-16 not 11.5.

Thats what i would like to do, drive aggressive and get at least 16+.

And right now i just recently put some bilstein 5100s in the front and 33's, nothing else as of right now.

What is your odometer reading at?

Im hoping its cause my truck is still brand new

If you click on my fuelly signature it will plot all my fuel ups. Note that I only got 16-18 when it was new, but that is because Dec-Feb, have morning temps between -25 and 15 degrees so I let my truck idle for a good bit before driving off.

Just passed 7000 miles and I average 18.5-19.5 per tank. I would say 70% is highway driving.

I find with the Tacoma at highway speeds above 75 mph, your mpg drops dramatically. It's just not an aerodynamic vehicle.

If you are shifting at 3000 or below I would say you have issues, unless you are sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for hour plus commutes, then maybe it is normal.

    Lets do some MATH!!!

So first off, a full tank, down to dry, is 21 gallons. Even if you managed to get it THAT dry, that's still 12.4 mpg. I'm going to guess that you actually filled up around 17 gallons, which is about where the light comes on. That brings you up to 15.3 miles per gallon.

Next up, 30.5*3.14=95.77 inches per revolution on the stock tires. You're on 33 inch tires, so 33*3.14=103.62 inches per revolution. So lets take 15.3*103.62/95.77=16.55 miles per gallon. Now you're bang-on into the territory known as "drives somewhat aggressively".
