Isn't that the plane that had window issues?

Yes. There is only one of the early fuselages left in existence with the original square windows that were a key part of the structural issues the plane had early on.

The RAF flew tanker and recce versions (they may still) that solved the window issue by taking them all out. No windows, no issue. They aren't very efficient because of the engine design, though. They couldn't take advantage of the GE and PW engine redesigns of the 1990s. Long skinny jets aren't nearly as efficient (or quiet) as the big turbofans.

Had a Pacer once. Like driving in a greenhouse. To this day I won't have a sun/moon roof in a vehicle.

But wait, the gas tank had a depression/well where the spare tire "sat" inside the car. Bought the car for $150, certified, filled the gas tank and watched as gas poured out where the top of the tank/bottom of the spare tire well had been rusted through like #8 birdshot from a 12 guage had been shot at it. I had to get out of town fast, it was running down into the storm sewer drain.

Altogether a good car to send to the wreckers! And I've seen one "restored" around town. Why?

It doesn't sound like there are any Comets left flying, and maybe as little as 4 airframes left, at least according to wiki. That was my first time seeing one in person. Even from across the room it was pretty easy to tell what it was.

Correct - they retired in 2011. They were flying missions in mid 00s; they were in our SIGINT posters on Security Hill as part of the US/UK/AUS partnership.

Airframe code name Nimrod, and I guess Hawker must have bought De Havilland because it's manufacturer is listed as Hawker-Siddley.

Pulled in to work today to a P-51, B-17 and F4U flying in formation over Paine field. I wish I had been able to get my phone out to take a picture.

I've always like the Nimrod. Years ago one was on static display at the annual air show at NAS Pax River. Cool looking aircraft...looks like the new P8 is going to be doing the same job for the Brits.

I'm just an aviation buff no expert by any means but I understand that Italy also will be flying the P8 but it will be equipped with a MAD. Why did the Navy opt out of having a MAD? Money? Replaced by something else? I see them flying at Pax all the time, nice looking planes but I will always like the Orion a little more.
