And once the Navy is done cannibalizing it, they'll give it to the Marines, right?

Nope. No interest. It's basically like being on a deployment inside the US. They do something like 70 shows a year basically always on the weekend. Imagine never having a weekend off with your homies. Also, their flight suits aren't comfortable.

So what's the legal minimum elevation for commercial airliners? Thought I was going to see a crash tonight...
Just leaving work, walking out to my car and this United plane buzzes over me and continues on along flying parallel to the runway that's a mile away. Rained all day, low clouds so I guess he needed to drop for visibility but seemed unnecessary to fly so low directly into the mountains (to the S and E) when there's plenty of room and no mountains to drop to the W. He finally started to bank and came back around to land.

They probably decscended to the MDA (minimum descent altitude) on the approach to be able to see the airport. The MDA can be pretty low sometimes which allows you to get under the cloud deck.

yeah. I always enjoy watching airliners materialize out of thin air when the fog rolls in at BWI. it gets to bad here that we have actually shut down in the spring/fall due to fog

    Or a contact approach ;)

Then they'd REALLY be flying IFR (I Follow Roads)

Very true, good thinking. Although a lot of 121 operators are not authorized for contact approaches because it causes pilots to take unnecessary risks (perhaps this was that scenario).

So the selector knob on my Garmin 696 stopped responding to clockwise and counterclockwise twists. Clicking in and clicking to directions still works. Garmin wants $600 for us to send the unit to them and have them send us back a refurbished unit. :annoyed: That's a ridiculous amount of money for a knob that isn't even completely broken :puke:
