From what I heard there was some kind of mechanical failure on take off that caused the aircraft to take a hard right turn about 10/20 feet off the ground. The aircraft then took a noise dive and bounced across the grass area ending up at the edge of the tie down area where you see it...

...^^^... Reminds me of this .... lost 2 flying friends here .. both close friends and I bought my house from Lee 20 years this week.

    http://gainesvillelegals.com/news/stories/20060513/localnews/94774.shtml

Tail wind problems not in news article.

Lost a bunch of other flying friends in civilian accidents ... I was always lucky to be somewhere else when bad things happened ... been very lucky with aircraft all my life.

    .....

This is my older flying buddy who had the super parties and found the original Delta DC3 and started the restoration ... I actually got Sergio into helicopters.

Both Lee & Sergio were retired Delta Captains

Link to helicopter crash in Brazil .... http://accesswdun.com/article/2003/12/180842

    ......

.... Been around and in others crashes (military & civilian) ... been lucky all my life ... had some weird reflections seeing that crash ...

...^^^... Kadena AFB (Okinawa) was a busy place with F-4's and was the first place where I saw an early SR-71 take off. (on my way to RVN)

They made most people leave the runway area and go into various buildings during takeoff ... but you could hear the roar and see it (burners) at the end of the runway.

Hope everyone was ok. Did they get on the brakes too hard?

Edit: I read your post above explaining the accident.

...^^^... I would like to be able to land and take off like these guys (on steep hillsides) ... crazy flying from about 2:02.

I got to know some of them in RVN and more after RVN. One of my best friends (Mustanger, Army, G-2) who had ALS, helped him with his VA claim, took him to daily breakfast at Chick-fil-A in the Tacoma, until he passed 3 years ago. His brother, Jimmy was with Air America for 16 years, then finished his working career as a maintenance boss for American A/L based in FL.

Been working with some of these guys to try to help them get some benefits for all the crap they went through as "off the book government employees".

Here is a 6 year old news clip about the things they went through and some real life things that they did. These guys are the real heroes by definition.

Some of them have passed, but now there's a good chance to get some medical bennies for the survivors with the new administration.

    https://khampoua.wordpress.com/2010/10/30/air-america-veterans-continue-to-battle-government/

PS ... To this day ... I still go back and forth to Bangkok (sometimes Laos) ... planning to go back in early 2017 to see my female buddy there ... :)

....^^^... Was thinking about your job and where it takes you in your exploration of life.

You are kind of a modern day version of a western cowboy & explorer ... but you do it in a jet powered fixed wing :plane: instead of on a horse ...
