It really is ugly IMO. It's proportions just aren't right.

I'm hopeful the the 777x & A350 can kill it.

Really it's not been a good program for Airbus. Of course BA, LH & AF took some but other than the ME3 & SIA they've got little interest. The ME3 carriers get SO MUCH government support they're basically a state run/owned operator. The three EU airlines were supporting their home builder.

I was doing some reading today about the process that they have to use to build it. It looks like a logistics nightmare.

It's huge. Of course Boeing does it too. In Boeings case it helps sales & in some cases lowers labor cost by avoiding unions.

It was more the fact that they cant get a large number of the components in their Beluga and have to move it by barge or road convoy. I'd hate to be behind one of those things

Boeing does it. They move complete fuselage sections by air and train a great distance.

...^^^... My old buddy (he mentored me) who worked at old Lockheed Company and he was some type flight structural test engineer and he used to tell me ... "how out of round and distorted" ... the C5's frame and skin would get after certain flights.

I wonder if that happens with the 380?

I know the SR-71 changes shapes and old Concorde was 10"+ longer after an ocean flight when it landed.

Yes. Framework and skin from what I remember.

This guy was a super pro at this and Lockheed kept him working until 70 yo on call until he was 81 years old.

This guy could feel the airplane in his body he said. All of his life and his only civilian job ever was Lockheed.

Lockheed and US Marines and being a country preacher was his entire life.
