Wouldn’t want to know. We’ve had a couple of occasions where someone has gotten careless with the coffee or whatever and spilled it on the centre pedestal. That always generates a memo or two reminding us to be careful.

Coffee in the pedestal is nothing compared to liquid in the Air Data Inertial Reference Unit (ADIRU) down in the E&E. That gets quite pricey. As for the complete package, I'm sure it is about a quarter of the aircraft cost when you take into account all of the boxes that have to interface with each other.

I know roughly what Boeing pays for that stuff, I don't even want to imagine what it would be for someone who wasn't buying them in bulk.

...^^^... Indeed .... "technically" ... they could probably nail you for taking pics of the old analog instruments in a Huey ... if it was not officially declassified.

I saw some weird things happen on old and outdated equipment ... and if you took pics of the newer stuff today ... you might never get of jail ... depending on how hard ball the CO or the XO wanted to be.

Ah, gotcha. I saw a Hawker nail a flock of birds over the summer. There was blood and feathers all over that plane!
That would be a cool email signature
Coool. I went hang gliding in New Zealand last month. It was an amazing experience
Very nice, I got about 9 hours driving from Las Vegas, NM back to Dallas ;)

@Bushed That Max looks nice! Does it fly any different with the new engines?

@MatthewMay1 Theres some subtle differences, but all in all, it still handles like a 737. A little less engine noise up front, a little less recirc fan noise, and what seems like a whole lot less wind noise. I think it will be a slightly less fatiguing work environment. The biggest difference I’ve noticed with the new engines is how little power it takes to taxi. In fact, in most cases we were rolling at brake release, where an 800 would normally take 35% N1, and the 6 and 700 would normally take around 30% to break away. I think the heaviest I had it though was 157000lbs. So still quite always under Max gross. It’ll be interesting if we do end up taking the Max-7. I see us wearing out a lot of brakes just from trying to keep it at a reasonable taxi speed. Or we’ll be doing a lot more single engine taxiing. The engine starts can be very long with these new engines as well. Up to almost 3 minutes per engine, as opposed to under 3 minutes to start 2 NG engines, because it does this thing called Bowed Rotor Motoring to straighten out the shaft before it will allow you to throw the fuel to it.

I do feel lucky to have been one of the first line pilots to have the chance to fly it for our company, and I enjoyed the experience very much. Probably won’t get the chance to fly it again for at least a few months as others get their opportunity, and until we take delivery of a few more. That’s okay though. The NG is still a nice aircraft to fly, and the 600 is still my favourite. It’s the nimble little Miata of the 737 fleet.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I really like the new FMC software so far. Better integrated with the auto flight systems. Should help decrease the work load at least a bit during the busiest times during a flight, where you don’t want to have your head buried inside programming and verifying shit. And it’s stuff that will be updated in the NG as well, so you won’t have to fly the Max to enjoy the magic.

Sounds like a more pleasant ride in the pointy end for sure!

I finally joined the sound-canceling headset gang. Got a new-to-me 2010 Bose Aviation X headset for $400. After thinking I got ripped off, I discovered the stereo/mono switch beneath the batteries. Phew! The thing is working great and hopefully the sides of my head won't hurt on long flights anymore since I will no longer need to wear my green vice grip on my head :) I've got a trip to St Louis planned this weekend, weather permitting. :fingerscrossed: for no icing conditions!

I landed a C172 on an aircraft carrier on my first attempt! I really smacked it down. Guess I have my carrier landing technique down now!

Ironically, with a good headwind you don't need the catapult to get back up.

...^^^... One of my first experiences after solo was in a J3 Cub and it was almost a vertical takeoff into a strong headwind on a dirt runway on the farm.

Cool experience to just “lift off” like a kite.
