Love Mustangs... still a good looking plane today

I can only imagine the stress of the crew in the tower and on the ground with that much traffic coming through

You'd think they would have cautioned the King Air that there were 80+ aircraft on approach and to just hang back for a bit.

Awesome! What's the history on the planes? Where were they during the war? Any "movie stars" in the group?

not even on the ground?!?! :pout:

    :woot:

Its a little stressful just because its all at once. Usually there are small delays between each 3 pack of aircraft that land on the dots. Just enough to let you focus on one group at a time.

As far as the king air, there isnt really much opportunity to "hold back". Once you join the elephant march, you're in it till the end.

Hey Wessa, only flying, on the ground does not break any FAA rules of any kind, we did tours of the plane all week on the ground..... Insurance is the other thing, carrying passengers on warbirds gets expensive, that's most of the cost of riding like on DOC, or Panchito. All three of those planes are D-Day Vets, they all were dropping paratroopers over the beaches of Normandy. Tico Belle went on to do Market Garden and several other mission in the ETO..

I expect a VIP tour whenever I visit FL again
Thanks for doing all you do to help keep these girls flying! So few veterans left these days, the planes are one of the few links we have to that part of our history.

I told you before you come down and I will personally walk you around the museum... We are losing the WWII vets at a rate of about 20 a day now... Sad that history is gone forever, the Greatest Generation is all but gone..

I did get to shake hands with Col. Bud Anderson this year at the show.. That's history there, look him up his P-51 Mustang was named "Old Crow"

....Old Crow carried him safely through 116 missions without being hit by fire from enemy aircraft and without Anderson ever having to turn back for any reason...

Lucky, lucky man. Bet he never thought he'd still be here today, talking about his experiences.

My grandfather and I never got along, but I have been finding out some interesting facts the last few years. Apparently, he was a very good shot (bunch of awards), and he signed off on the acceptance inspection of the first SH-3 for the Navy.

I wish I was in a more cool-airplane-centric area...kinda drool over the DC 3 flights and everything else going on....of course inundated with Osh and some other youtube stuff this month.

Side note - anyone going to the New Garden show next month? http://www.newgardenflyingfield.com/index-3.html

    Southeast PA....

So I am 25 and currently working as a civil engineer but am considering going back to school to become a pilot. Any words of wisdom for someone considering it? I Currently don’t have any flight experience so I would be starting from scratch. Anyone know the going rate to get your license? I’m sure it is location dependent, but would like to know the range.

    thanks in advance!

I'm not in that side of the house anymore, haven't been for a long time, but it really depends on how far you want to go, what you want to fly long term... Degree?? Embry Riddle!! https://daytonabeach.erau.edu/ 25 is still young...

I'm currently exploring options - much out of school.
Pending your situation, I'm looking at the Lift Academy based out of Indianapolis. Very cool idea...wish it was around 19 yrs ago!

In your plane, you going to fly over to KTIX or drive over?? It takes a good two hours to tour the museum properly.. I might be able to get out of here a for a little bit..
