First job out of college I traveled 42 weeks a year. Turns out most Marriott hotels really do look the same. Wasn't an uncommon occurrance to try swiping into the wrong room I had had the 3 days prior.

Upside was I was a king when it came to Delta, Marriott, and Hertz points. I knew I had to get out when most of the hotel concierges knew my name from memory.

I'm pretty content with my once a quarter trip to somewhere now.

My pinnacle moment was getting a little  too sauced in Santa Monica for the drive home, and ended up booking the penthouse at the Marina Del Ray on points

The FBO ramp in JAC is always a skating rink of ice. Allegedly the FBO owner won’t pay for it to be plowed. Hopefully that changes in a couple years when the lease runs out and new management comes in.

I never got why places do that, the FBO I worked at at MDW was the same way. The plow contractor wouldn't come out unless it was more than 2" snow, royal pain the ass to ground handle airplanes in that. They used to tell us it was too expensive, hard to make that case when we had global's topping off with 5,000 gallons of $7.00+p/g fuel. That's why I liked working for the airport authority's that also owned the FBOs, we would be using the runway sweepers and snow plows on the ramp, it was nice!

Plowing and de-icing the ramp takes away all the winter time entertainment watching people bust their ass.

Very true, it was amusing to watch pilots eat it on the snow!

Jacked from a good buddy of mine that’s a great photographer. Unplowed ramps are more fun and keep things interesting.

Guess I was lucky then. There wasn’t any ice for me, just a dusting of snow on everything but the runway.

On a different level of thinking, the cost of plowing is nothing compared to the payout of a civil suit for an injured person in a fall or worst case a plane that got a little slidey near another. "Because it's too expensive" is a great club to beat you to death in court with. :smack:

Yup!! One of the reasons why I left that place and pursued a career in safety. There is always work in fighting human nature and complacency!!

Agreed. I work in manufacturing plants and the amount of "well, that's just how is always been done" is astounding.

    Crazy right?

I just left the aviation/airline business to start my own company and it was astonishing the priorities. Someone dents a 737 with a belt loader and the world stops and the COO wants someone's head on a platter and immediate corrective actions in place. Meanwhile an employee has an amputation and or a major bone breakage and you are even lucky to get an investigation out of someone, or you get "well they were dumb" as the reason. Mind blowing!!

Aviation safety is really weird, in the air they are the leaders, when it comes to safety on the ground and in industrial processes they are stuck in the 1930s when you compare it to some other industries. It's getting better, but still a long way from where it should be.

Spent an hour and a half standing in the wind and rain hoping to watch the 777X first flight today but it has to take off to the North and the wind was blowing pretty good out of the South all morning. 3 hours later it's still sitting out there but I think they are about to scrub the flight for today.
