    Just the basics
LOL so true but when I asked my dad why he wanted the 17 over the 18 he immediately educated me on the cost of running only one P&W R985. My 15 year old mouth shut on that note.

Here's a link to a guy who took a photo of my dad extinguishing an oil fire that happened to N18777 at the 1986 Watsonville Airshow. I wasn't along for that ride but the story was interesting. My dad saved the aircraft with little damage incurred.

Canada seems like the ultimate for cool aviation stuff. I’d love to go explore.

To be faaaiiirr, 17’s are gorgeous aircraft. Have you seen the lion heart kits? Basically a 17 with cantilever wings and no bracing. They’re gorgeous. Not producing the kits any more from my understanding.

Huh, I wonder what the ratio is in the U.S. of class e and g to the rest

Class G is where the fun flying happens. Don't have to wander very far from the major centres to be out in the wild. About 3 minutes from where I park my airplane, aka my back yard, to be clear of the class E.

I grew up in Northwestern Ontario in a small city called Kenora. I've been fortunate the last several years, having an airline schedule, to make it my part time home again. Anyway, when I was growing up, and as I embarked on a flying career in the area, the Beech 18 was a fairly common bush type. Between Fort Frances, Emo, Nestor Falls, Kenora, Minaki, Ear Falls, and Red Lake, there were a dozen or more Model 18's around. Still a few operating in the area, but those spars. Not many operators put in the time and money to repair them. Not when Turbine Otters and Caravans can carry a bigger load, for fairly close to the same cost, less maintenance, and close to the same speed. Not that speed makes much of a difference when most of the camps and lodges are within 60 miles of your water base. Now that all of the Reserves have runways, outfitting is the majority of the float business in this area. Wasn't that long ago though that Red Lake was the Nordynn Norseman capital of the world, and Kenora saw 150 movements a day out of the float base on Safety Bay.

Man!! Age has a way of creeping up on a person.

He also celebrated 50 years of flying and got the Wright Bro’s Master Pilot Award that year....6 yrs in AF, 33 yrs at DAL, and 11 yrs flying his Mooney. All in he flew from 1958 to 2016.

Parked next to a Navy Seahawk this weekend, then I saw two drones getting pulled out of a ratty old hangar. Good times at IYK. Then I saw a cool lineup over Edwards..
