Is that an Army TH-67 in the background? Really weird place for that to be at if it is, though I guess the Army might've started selling them since making the terrible decision to use UH-72s as primary trainers.

I know it’s not a UH-72 since it don’t have the tri-paneled tail beyond that never seen it before.

Anything fun to fly in the area? I'm at RBD for work, and might have some downtime in my future.

Yeah, definitely not a 72. Some quick reading says the Army has been selling them off for almost two years now. I found an article about 60 of the old girls being sold to Colombia back in August 2019. I wouldn't be surprised if that one was sold for $1 to a local police department and hasn't been repainted yet.

Interesting, next time they fly in I’ll get a better look at it. It is a DPS bird though for sure.

Anything fun to fly in? I guess that depends on how much you’re willing to pay. You can go up and do aerobatic training in McKinney if you want, or are you asking for someplace fun to fly to? How long are you in town?

Not really sure how long I'll be here, maybe one or two more days. No need to pay someone to do aerobatics, I used to teach aerobatics/ spins and still fly an Extra regularly, but interested to hear what else is around. After last week's weather, I'm sure some places around haven't resumed normal operations yet.

Ah, gotcha. I’m out working this week but would be happy to meet up and fly if you find yourself back that way in the future

There’s not many great places to fly around north Texas...it all looks the same, only some airports have cafes to eat at. Probably the coolest place is up on Lake Texoma, 3T0. It’s a beautifully maintained grass strip about half a mile from a cafe and boat marina. There are cabins to rent for overnight as well as space for tent camping. I fly there often since it’s about 45 minutes from Mesquite in my Cardinal.

Florida can be the same, especially if you're over the swamp or cow pastures. There definitely isn't much elevation change as the highest point is only about 300ft msl.

Which was a huge advantage to me when I lost the engine in a Piper Warrior back in the day. Being at 5000' and able to glide 5 miles to find a landing area is pretty nice since there is no terrain anywhere.

I was hoping I'd find some fellow pilots & aviation lovers on the forum. Glad I searched.

PPL ASEL here with just shy of 200 hours, most of which are in my 150M (pic attached) and the flight school's 172.

Terrified of heights here as well, but flying never did bother me, as a passenger commercially or otherwise.

It sounds ridiculous when I talk about it, but it is what it is. Put me two feet off the ground on a ladder changing a light bulb and I'm shaking like a leaf. Put me two feet off the ground on the fuel steps of a Cessna or at 6,500 MSL in the same Cessna and it doesn't bother me a bit.

If you're in a U2 over DEN and need to look for a place to land, just glide your ass to Omaha and land at Offutt.

The U2 can literally do that.
