If I'd known then what I know now, I NEVER would have taken on a partner. I had a C150, he did too. Join forces and buy a C172 and then rent them all out. Very costly mistake. I did get my IFR ticket with the 172 tho.

If I had walked away from him, there might have still been a 150 tied down at my house, ready to splatter cow pies any time I want to. :annoyed:

I was fortunate to have the partner that I did. Older gentleman who had built or rebuilt a dozen or so tube and fabric airplanes. He had a PA-12 and a 7GCBC parked on his beach when I bought became his neighbour. When he found out there was a pilot moving in next door, he welcomed me to fly his planes whenever I wanted to. After he sold them, and we bought the Champ together, it was nice to share a plane with someone who had 40 plus years of ownership experience, and was knowledgeable about build, maintenance, and upkeep. Having said that, it wasn’t all roses. It wasn’t a strained partnership by any means, but we didn’t always see eye to eye. All in all, I feel like it was a good time to head out on my own, and I’m happy to do it with a machine that I’m pretty intimately familiar with.

Must have been great keeping an airplane at your house. I know it is for me. To have to go to an airport to fly would take pre planning, and eat up half of my day. As it is now, I can look out the window on a nice calm day and decide to take my morning coffee and have it on a beach down the lake somewhere, or on a pickerel lake 15 minutes north of home. To just go fly for and hour takes me and hour and a half from ropes on to ropes off. Just throw some fuel in it, pre flight, pump the floats, and push off.

My partner was older than me too. He was a good guy, he just had ambitions that were not doable. And he did some painting on the 172 that was deplorable! Regular masking tape for lines. It was awful.

Working construction 26 miles from home, if I got off before dark I would get home and go for a fly. Might only have 15-20 minutes of light left, didn't care. I knew where home was and the runway quite well.

I miss flying. I miss it a lot.

We’re hiring 150 pilots by the end of the year to meet demand. Nows a great round to get and app in

My buddy works down at our local airport (GSP) and caught the ole vodka burner after takeoff about 2 hrs ago. It has one of our GE Turbine rotors loaded aboard.

:woot: glad you took our advice... that floats looking a little wrinkly, might want to check into that

i need to see one of those in person one day. always amazes me how slow those bigger guys can move and still manage to get airborne!

Nah, it's good. Just a little bit of dock rash. Been like that since we bought it. Never get any water out of that compartment. They're very tight floats actually. Get a couple of cups of water out of them over an entire float season, and most of that comes out of the step compartments which is pretty standard.

Spent the day priming and painting the right wing tip, and patching the left one. It had a few cracks in it. Very much dislike working with resin. I'll do a bit of sanding and get it painted up tomorrow.

It's pretty crazy. We were all invited down to GSP when the Antonov first flew here years ago to pick up one of our units. Not sure of the total weight but just the Rotor assembly is around 160,000 lbs.

edit: Buddy just called from ship to prep.
about 443,000 lbs for one of of lighter turbines. The Antonov is the only plane that can handle our units.

But yea, they are freakishly slow on climb and sometimes almost seem to defy gravity and almost hover at certain angles.
