Did they ever say why it diverted?

Found the second leg (DEN-IAD) and its flight info & route but zero info on why it stopped at Denver.

Obviously some major tail components are rudder, elevator, horizontal stabilizer & the APU and all the crap that makes that stuff work so actuators, fuel, electrical, hydrulic lines & fluid.

Kinda wonder with the left right movement on decent & the crew & maintenance checking that area I f the aircraft had some EICAS rudder message.

Were the left / right aircraft movements large or just kinda like the aircraft was wagging it's tail on decent? A yaw damp failure (especially if seated aft) is very noticeable.

02 Tacoma, fixed with curse words.

I used to go there and work evrey christmass to new yrs for 3yrs. I used to work for atlantic aviation and you work special events at other stations if they requested it. The sunset slam on new years day was absolutely insane!! Good times, beautiful airport, city, and rediculously hot women!!

Did they ever say why it diverted? We never did get anything more than an maintenance issue.

Found the second leg (DEN-IAD) and its flight info & route but zero info on why it stopped at Denver. The 57 we took to Dulles came from Newark and was to overnight in Denver and continue on the next day.

It was not on decent this started at 34,000 feet and 560 MPH non stop....I think there some major issue with something back there as when we landed you would have thought there was a 100 mph cross wind with the angle of the plane.

Were the left / right aircraft movements large or just kinda like the aircraft was wagging it's tail on decent? A yaw damp failure (especially if seated aft) is very noticeable. It was so noticeable that it felt like the aft section of the plane was in constant turbulence.

I'm guessing it was a yaw damper failure based on what you discribe.

I previously worked at United Airlines and flew with engineering crews a few times on flights tested fresh out of C & D checks. During test flight yaw damp is turned off and that's the only time I've felt it while flying but, it's very noticeable and uncomfortable even to people who fly a lot.

I don't work at UA anymore but, "back in the day" United was a no shit airline and had excellent maintenance...this was prior to maintenance being outsourced...not that I think continued improvement in airline safety is affected by it...components fail.

I'll keep my eye open. We occasionally get news from other operators and we fly several previously UA owned 757s.

I.M.O. If your on a plane and it makes a non-scheduled stop for anything ..."get off that plane no matter what it takes" that's just me , kinda
but there are many who would be with us today if they would have been allowed to get off the plane before it went back up.

Trust your gut , not the airlines .... sorry if I offended anyone with this post

I'm sure not offended and I work on them & fly recreationally.

Anytime I have a gate call, block turn back or air turn back at one of my gates I always want the crew to be pleased and comfortable with the fix/repair and always make sure they are aware that is the case.

I've been on a few flights that diverted due mechanical. One a company flight while I was non-rev & on vacation. We diverted to a non-maintenance station and I ended up being the only mechanic. I worked the FIM with the help of maintenance control & got the aircraft safe & legal to fly and flew with the aircraft with a 5 hour delay & 30+ less passengers that were on the flight to start with on to our destination. It was a 757-200 with Rolls power and a pressurization problem. The O2 mask dropped due cabin altitude and of course we performed a rapid decent upon rapid decompression. There was no structural issue so other than the immediate risk of hypoxia there was no risk.

I earned my private cert in 1988. Two years later I decided I'd like to get into RC planes.... I always wanted one. I bought a plane, joined the AMA and joined a club per the suggestion of the hobby shop guy.

I arrived at the club with my cheap .25 sized nitro piece of shit plane and AM transmitter. I was a 23 year old aviation know-it-all pilot thinking I could show those guys how it's done...... well, I got a royally bitch-slapped ego when the plane took off. I rotated too early, stalled and rolled over..... wingtip cartwheeling on the grass until it was a mangled mess of popcorn (foam).

I quickly realized that flying rc planes is soooooo much harder than full scale ones.

Well, I stuck with it since then and got really good at it. For the past 7 years, I've been flying turbine jets (I have 3 turbines so far) along with my gas and glow models.

Here's a clip of a local jet rally in the north shore of Massachusetts, Plum Island airport (2b2). Most of these guys are full scale pilots and a few ATP's and A&P's.

One of my jets is the first to take off with the camera on the centerline as I add power and return back with half flaps, 40ish MPH and smoke on.... enjoy.

Toured the USS Midway in San Diego today. I love walking through history, no matter how many tourists are around. They had two F-4's on the deck which is always cool, as well as a Desert Storm painted F-18, and my fav... the F4U Corsair. The SBD Dauntless display was also cool. There were many more aircraft that I did not photograph.
