Cool stuff. It took me awhile to try to wrap my head around the theory of it. It's just one of those things that works and that's good.

So do I! If you're ever near New Orleans you must go to the D-Day Museum if you haven't already.

I have not been to the museum yet, but I have wanted to go. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely try. Thanks for the recommendation!

Wait wait, I'm only 4ish hours from NOLA and am unaware of this museum you speak of....

I had the opputunity to visit Normandy, Point DeHoc (sp) the American Cemeteries ect not long ago. I rolled that in with visit to Daukau (at least the concentration camp)...very moving & probably one of my best vacation experiences.

If you ever get to Corpus Christi TX, the USS Lexington is a great visit.

It is well worth the trip. If memory serves, the main building the museum is housed in is the same building Higgins boats were manufactured in. I think I remember reading that in the book D-Day by Stephen Ambrose or I read it there at the museum. I love WW2 history so naturally I'm very fond of that museum. They used to have a Nazi single man concrete pillbox there in the lobby. The last time I visited was before Katrina so I'm not sure what is there and what isn't.
I would absolutely love to visit Omaha, Juno, Sword, Utah and Gold beaches over there as well as Point Du Hoc. My mother, a few years before she passed, was fortunate enough to take her dream trip to Europe and visited there. She said it was a very moving experience to stand on Omaha. A picture she took of a quote really speaks volumes about the men and women of that time. I like it so much it's in my signature

Oh, since I'm in the Aviation BS and Photo thread. I love the F4U Corsair. It's my favorite. P47 is a close second

I am a pavements Civil Engineer for a DOD contractor at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL. Last April, we had a visit from NASA's Super Guppy from Johnson Space Center. It was diverted due to weather on it's way to Kennedy Space Center. Here is a short video:

You know that once upon a time that was a B-29, right? Amazing piece of machinery.

I was wondering which aircraft they altered for this. I knew it was not built from scratch, but never knew 100% what they used. It was very impressive to walk inside of it and see the enormity of the fuselage.

Technically it was a Boeing 337, which was a B-29 with a passenger cabin instead of a bomb bay. Still cool.

Very cool. Would consider ATC if starting over.

    What function & location?
