And how fortunate for the men who flew in those days! Getting to transition from radials to turbines, open cockpit to pressurized, and ...we won't even talk about speed differences.
Dad was a B-24 & B-17 PIC during WW2, stayed active duty, retired a Col and Command Pilot in B-52s. He so loved watching all that progression in modern aviation, especially powerplants.
His parents got to witness the Wright brothers first flight to the Moon landing in their lifetime. Amazing advancements in such a short time period.

The National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs has an airworthy P-38 amongst an impressive collection of other aircraft. It will be flying during the Pikes Peak Airshow next month.

I flew one of my Apaches to their hangar for a display and tried to trade it for their Skyraider.

Will be checking this out soon! Cheers for passing this on.

Stapleton also used have the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant just outside the fence. The runway side of the building was all glass. Every table had a set (or two) of headphones to listen to the tower and the planes on approach -- that you were watching through the glass wall.

The rest of the building was built to look like an old French farmhouse (circa 1916). Including much battle damage. Flag pole out front surrounded by bicycles and sandbags. Entry split: one way led down a sandbag lined stairway to a bunker (the bar), the other way led into the eating area sweetly decorated will all WW1 military aviation memorabilia. The waitresses worn French Nurse uniforms.

The steak, French onion soup, salad, and French bread were ALL to die for. Delicious! I tried to go once a month or so (from COS) back in the 1980s. Sadly it burned down one night...

There is a live broadcast of DEN ATC in the bathrooms at FlyteCo Tower. :plane:

It is a great place. I have been excited for it to open up and I think it will continue to get better over time. The first location has been a great success and this place is just a perfect fit overall.
