The only thing that sounds better than a radial is two radials, etc…

I’d have thought you’d be needing an Otter for those 16 footers inside the cabin though.

Nothing too exciting... maybe a little rust
It's always amazing hearing a B-17 or B-29 fly over with the 4 radials. I can only imagine what it would've been like to hear a whole formation of them overhead... preferably on their way somewhere else lol.

they definitely wouldn't have had the element of surprise! but i've thought the same thing - how cool would it be to see/hear a whole fleet of them flying over.

I've been thinking about this lately ... I wonder if My Chief's "follow the money" lesson from 28 yrs ago applies? I think maybe somehow the Guard equation comes with an overall cheaper price tag by way of manpower? :notsure:
... I'm sure they have charts, graphs, and pretty PowerPoint slides to support it. o_O

    Yeah.
That's almost always part of the equation. My thought was that the Army is just better equipped to maintain the older craft than the Guard is. Or it could just be, "eh, we never really thought about it."

From talking with a few state aviation officers they all say they like having the Apache Battalion because they get a ton of federal money with it and can siphon that money off into other programs that get less funding. A realistic evaluation of a state national guard role makes it obvious that a lift battalion is a much better choice since as they can actually provide assistance in state emergencies. And all of that is totally separate from just how poorly trained and not good at their job all of the Apache battalions are. It’s a train wreck every time you have to deploy and operate with these guys around.

I figured you wouldn’t like it but it’s the truth based on 15 years of experience with multiple state AH battalions.

I’m not talking about individuals, the unit as a whole is what matters. Shitty pilots exist everywhere.
