    Hmmm. My last two deployments, asshats in boats cut underwater comm cables with their anchors.

    Needs to be deeper.

    Still sucks that the plane went down.

    If the aircraft "disappeared" at 37,000 feet ... How does anyone know what the altitude and corresponding airspeed is or was ?

    Do Plane manufactures have full time communication with planes as they fly?

    Kind of like some type of monitoring system as to the planes operations under conditions...

    Looking at the article - has a still frame from a video with pilots wearing flight helmets. Is that normal on a B52? Never seen any other big Air Force plane pilots with helmets on.

    02 Tacoma, fixed with curse words.

    Sweet!! The airport i worked at in high school had a 2 t-6's and a TBM avenger based there. I got to fly the t-6 (awesome feeling plane) and was in the ball turret on the TBM for some high power engine runs. The turret SUCKS BTW, it gets hot in there!!

    The airport i worked at in college had a p-51 mustang and t-33 based there. We also had a Grumman Goose based there still with radials. That was a beautiful airplane but a royal pain in the ass to tow and put in the hangar. I used to live in a house on the airport and the only 2 planes to ever wake me up was that p-51 doing a highspeed low pass one morning and a red bull painted MIG taking off using the afterburner at 6am on a monday after a fuel stop LOL. Love those old airplanes and kind of miss that job, just not the rat infested house i lived in.

    The B-52 crew have ejection seats which I believe is why they have the helmets on.

    I don't know of any other large jets operated by USAF except the B-1 that have ejections seats

    It's customary for aircraft in combat operations. Bombers and fighters all the time, and airlift when operating in a war zone. My brother was a flight engineer on C-130s and C-5s, and he'd wear a helmet when they were in "the shooting gallery."

    Like @Beers said, it all depends. Here is a link to find your local Aviation Mecical Examiner (AME). https://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/ If your heart is healthy and you don't fall asleep randomly, the doctor can usually work with you to get you your medical.

    The requirements to get a medical for a private certificate versus a commercial certificate are not all that different. The main difference is how often you need to renew your medical. If you are bored and want to read exactly what is involved with a 3rd class medical follow this link http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-id...5c78ec18179&mc=true&node=sp14.2.67.d&rgn=div6
    Warning -> it's boring.

    I don't know that it is required or maybe a paid optional or lease required service but, the operators I've worked at have this service to the airframe and powerplant manufacture and to the operator. ARINC (in our case) is the media that provides frequent and regular status updates/downloads on aircraft systems, health and location.
