Gotcha. The exhaust smoke is common for aerobatic and airshow aircraft.

Did she make it? I'd be shocked if she did.

Nope, missed her connection by 20+ minutes, had to spend the night at the airport and she flew in this AM, her flight today was also an hour and a half late departing because of a sick crew member.

Sucks, but you will spend 10 minutes just walking from the gate to the train at DFW. Only way she would have made it is if the connecting flight was the gate next door. Even then, she'd have to beg the agent to open the door

    Very nice hanger too.

Looks like you could eat off the floors :hungry: in that hanger.

...^^^... Doing some educated guessing here now .... $250.00 an hour for the rotary aircraft only is fairly cheap i.e. R-22 up to a R-44. Get into a small turbine and easily look at $500.00/hr. and up.

The old MBB 117 used to go for about $1,000. an hour wet. The newer version of the old 117 (rear loader) is what the hospitals really like for their civilian medevac units.
That's why a ride in a medevac here will cost you about $10,000. from what I have been told ... and a subsidized ride will cost you at least $5,000. ... and that is for a short hop from the roadway vehicle crash site to a hospital roof top.

One of my relatives is a brain stent doc and his wife is the administrator (the medevac boss woman) for several medevacs in a hospital system in VA and I will ask her what her medevac rides cost.

Rotary instructor prices are a little higher than fixed-wing-prop, but the rotary aircraft time is the main cost. I have no idea what turbine IP's charge now.

Military likes the UH-60s for primary medevac use ... but they are much too expensive for civilian medevac use.

I would take a wild guess that a UH-60 would cost at least $3,000. an hour to run considering main operating costs.

Some years ago, I was looking to burn some time on a biz trip in SEA. Wandered around Lake Union looking for a FlightSeeing tour. No dice. On a whim, I stopped at Kenmore's base to inquire and the answer was "No, we don't offer scenic flights per se but several of the pilots are coming off shift, let me ask". After something over an hour, we landed back at Lake Union. From that moment, my love of the Dehavilland Beaver and float planes. What a beautiful airplane.

The Beaver is my first love in aviation. So far, an unfulfilled one. Ridden in it a time or two, but I don't think I'll consider my logbook complete until I've logged some DHC-2 time. Nothing quite like the sound of a R985 coughing to life and breaking the morning silence as it starts its slide off the water.
