hi guys, while trying to take the mute wire out of the harness I broke it and just wondering; if i still wired it to bypass and did not plug in the mute wire what should happen??

I finally removed the mute wire but its pretty mangled and isnt going to go back into the white pin chord..

I didn't even wire the mute wire to anything. All I did was move it to the bypass pin (one below I think) and then grounded it with the P Brake and Ground wires. You might be able to shove bare wire into the harness but I wouldn't chance that. Maybe go to the local radio shack or computer store and see if you can find a similar pin.

You are looking for a Molex Pin. Check Parts Express, if radio shack doesnt have them.

    Thanks guys!
So isn't this bypass just so we can play movies while driving? Because I can without grounding mute...

The bypass will allow you play DVD's (not safe, please dont drive and watch a movie, ever!). It also allows you to enter navigation points, certain settings, like clock and audio, and a few other things.

The mute is for use with an aftermarket blue tooth or auxiliary device. It is to mute playback of whatever the AVIC is doing so the new item takes priority. It has nothing to do with the mute function of the deck's normal operation.

Hmmm, I can play DVD, use BT, clock, enter WP in GPS, while driving all without having my mute wire grounded

No, don't watch movies while driving ;)

sounds like you dont need to worry about it then. If you have problems in the future though you know where to look first :)

Yah, I hope not... Just trying to convince myself I don't need it but also puzzled why this mod even included the mute wire..

The mute wire isnt grounded. You remove it from the mute wire slot on the molex plug, drop it to the wire pin below this, and ground that wire.

People use the mute wire because it is there, and you normally dont use it for anything else.

    Why? It works without it.
    I can't put it back, it's broken...

I dont know if you have a different version or something in BC, but it does not work without it here. At least none of the Pioneer or Alpine units I have owned.

I dont know what to tell you... If yours works, cool - you got lucky. The rest of the world needs to do a bypass, as the features are supposed to be locked out unless the vehicle is in park, and the parking break is engaged. That is why the bypass method exists, and there are hundreds of threads about it on message boards for every vehicle it will fit in, and on Avic411, the dedicated AVIC site...

If it works for you, dont mess with it, and toss the wire you broke for no reason.
