Awaiting an Answer from the Insurance Company

Any updates from the insurance company?

 

Toyota dealer submitted a supplemental claim for $20k and some change. In addition to replacing the bed, they want to replace the frame. Allstate is requiring them to put the truck on the frame machine to “pull the frame” before they will consider replacing. After that process is complete, they will reevaluate. As of today, it has been over a month. Adjuster said the threshold to total is 75% of the value.

 

I wonder if the frame pull is considered on top of or part of the frame replacement cost.

 

Sorry to hear that. When my 2000 was crashed to hell Allstate put my truck on the frame machine and repaired it, never drove the same afterwards.

 

Allstate sucks.

 

I wish I had more pics of my old truck but this was all I can find. The list of things that needed replaced was a mile long, the boxed section of the frame was crushed, the drivers wheel pushed the floor all the way up to the clutch and brake pedals, plus the frame bent so much that it trashed the transfer case and twisted the bed. The truck should have been totaled but Allstate put it on the frame machine and repaired it, I recall the receipt saying it was on the frame machine for 40 hours and it was in the body shop 48 days.

insist only properly trained personnel and equipment are used with proper documentation. when my tacoma was damaged my plan was to have it taken to a dealership with a body shop and trade it in on the spot. the insurance company has already committed to a dollar value of the vehicle pre - loss to show that it's not totaled. if the dealership won't give you that figure in trade minus the estimated repair costs the insurance co. is on the hook for the difference in real dollars - regardless of what the adjuster they are paying says. if it were me I wouldn't want that truck back

not the horizontal axis - look how the tire is on the outside of the tread (positive camber)

 

Why don't you take a look at your wheel when it's turned fully next time. They all camber when cranked fully.

My 2016 OR was deemed totaled by AllState after a ~5mph rear end bump that resulted in the last couple inches of frame rails bending 30 degrees down. The bed was buckled a bit as well. Outside that, the truck was perfect.

The adjuster told me they called Toyota, provided them photos of the bend spot on the frame rails, and Toyota told them the entire frame would need to be replaced, which AllState said was over the 75% threshold. It's been 3 months since the accident... and finally tomorrow I'm picking up a 2019 OR.

This makes me want to research to see if there are products made by the resourceful people on TW that attempt to mitigate the rear-end -frame-bending-fender-benders. There must be a way to put in a hitch step or something that is designed to absorb some load before the frame does.

 

that's the last thing you want! in an impact let the truck take the hit and not you. congrats on the new truck. post a pic!

 

I hear you - that's also what Toyota said in regards to the new frame material - it absorbs instead of sending the load to the cab. But I'm thinking there must be a way to design something you can insert into the hitch (when you're not towing) that can absorb some amount of load if you get rear ended, before the frame does. So once you get hit, the insert it toast, and you replace it, but you're frame is fine. If the hit is big enough, maybe the frame absorbs the load too, and the cab is still fine.

 

They have to factor in the rental car costs while they replace the frame, you may still get over that 75% threshold. Good luck either way, sucks to see that happen.
