The red light is flashing on the dash. Where does one start with this issue?

Check that your RR DIFF LOCK button isn't depressed.

If you have a Diff Lock. The button will be on the left side of the steering wheel.

    4WD Hi light is green.
    Lo is Yellow.

The only Red light associated with the 4WD system would be the Rear Diff Lock light.
Which is why Dm93 suggested checking the Locker switch.

To bet installed: bling grill, headlights, fog lights.
Always good to report back on a positive outcome.
